One town over from me a sports arena has stood since before i was born. I have been to countless shows there from the time i was still in diapers. Circuses, motocross, hockey, arena football, monster trucks, wrestling, car shows, etc. About 4 years ago it was closed for structural concerns. Finally, in about 3 hours, it is going to be demolished. Its really sad to see it go, because i have so many memories there. I will post pics of the cool demolition when i return.

I saw the implosion on Fox News earler. I think I've been to the Coliseum once - I believe I saw the BeeGees play there in the 1970s.

I know how you must feel. The movie theater I saw Return of the Jedi in during its original release, and other such cinematic "classics" as Supergirl,Johnny Dangerously, and 2010 was torn down recently,so the nearby mall could have more parking space for a new movie theater.

    :( :_|

I spent many a night watching the New Haven Nighthawks play hockey there.

    What a shame.

There were 3 hockey teams that tried to replace the hawks, but they all fizzled. As did the arena football team. I still have a program from a New Haven Knights(hockey) game, as well as a flag.

I remember marveling at the building during a tour of New Haven I went on last year. Having a cantilevering parking structure on top is pretty unique, and made for an imposing sight up close.

It is also somewhat sad, as the Coliseum is another victim like many other buildings from its generation (60s-70s) are going down. It went up during Yale's/New Haven's push for new construction in the city.

Was that not where "Van Hagar" recorded their 5150 live show back in the day?
