Hello all! I have a quick question. I just recently found out about the 'Jango Fett' and 'Zam Wesell' graphic novels that were released a while back to tie into Attack of the Clones. What do you guys think of them? I myself have never much cared for anything related to the Star Wars expanded universe, but Jango Fett is a character that I found to be immensely interesting in AotC. He is probably my favorite minor character in the Saga. So, what do you think; would you recommend these books to a movie-only fan just looking to read a bit more about an interesting character?
They're decent. They introduce some interesting concepts and have some cool character moments for Jango and Zam. I would recommend them because there are only so many Jango stories so why not. They're both collected in the Dark Horse Omnibus Menace Revealed, which also collects another comic featuring Jango called "Full of Surprises." You may also want to check out Jango's official backstory in Jango Fett: Open Seasons, which you can find either as a trade paperback or in the Emissaries and Assassins Omnibus.
^Agreed. They're not OMGZ-awesome, but they're better than average. If you're a fan of Jango and/or Zam, or even a borderline fan, they're worth checking out. Plus the Zam one stars Yarael Poof. Can't beat that.
Jango Fett in my opinion is worth it for the art alone. On top of that I really enjoyed both personally.
They're all right. Nothing special. Don't go out of your way to read them, especially if you don't like the EU. But like Catherine said, if you like Jango, definitely read Open Seasons. It's pretty great.
Hey guys remember when pre-AOTC EU set up like this playful/adversarial sometimes-romantic relationship between Jango and Zam, then the movie came out and he just coldly murdered her like five minutes in and didn't care? Great, great times.
That's how much off a badass Jango Fett is. He doesn't care about loyalties and friendships if it gets in the way of completing the mission. Of course how is he supposed to know the Jedi with the nigh-full force of the Republic behind them would be able to track his little dart to Kamino.
I think it was more because the EU cares more about Lucas's characters than Lucas does, but yeah that too I guess. Not gonna lie, I cried when Jango cried over killing her in one of the YA Boba Fett books, because I am a loser.
Especially if you've played (or wanted to play) Bounty Hunter. It gives some background to Jango and Montross' story.
I'll second LAJ_FETT. Bounty Hunter is a great PS2 game. Indeed, one of the last decidedly good Lucasarts games.
I loved Bounty Hunter for the most part but some of those levels (prison, conveyor belts) just drove me mad.
I sort of liked that in a way -- Zam and Jango being buddies but knowing full well either one wouldn't skip a beat if the day came to shoot the other in the back. They don't really do that too often in the EU -- even the Bounty Hunter Wars and BH Tales established more of cold "business" relationship between the hunters. There wasn't much camaraderie. Except for maybe the Yavin Vassilika comic. But YV was um. Weird. I'll admit to cheat coding the hell out of Oovo IV. That jail break... good friggin grief. I still have nightmares about those orange suits.
Not gonna lie, I almost had a panic attack of excitement when I finally beat that evil prison! I loved Bounty Hunter, had it on the GC instead of PS2 though. Montross was a great character, and Clancy Brown is legendary.
Yeah, Bounty Hunter is great. I've played it so much that beating the entire thing is a breeze. I think I have those Jango and Zam comics lying around somewhere, maybe I'll give them a read. Open Seasons definitely has a lot of great moments for Jango though. Like him "using the Force", to Dooku's amazement.
I never minded the Prison mission that much but the endless level on Bodgen which ends with the Montross Boss Fight actually got me to quit playing the game for a month out of sheer frustration.
Yeah, that Bogden level was a bad one. Oovo IV break-in wasn't bad but the breakout was a Sith. I died many times in that area with the three bridges that led to the cave. The escape/getting Slave I wasn't as bad as the breakout.
I was disappointed TCW never snuck a Montross quote into Savage's dialogue. "Where are you going, Savage?" "I'M ON A HUNT!!! ...for my brother."
The prison escape level in Bounty Hunter was ridiculously hard- waaay too far between checkpoints. The only way to really beat the level was to find chokepoints like doors that you could lure the inmate mobs through and take them out en masse. Walking through doors into the rooms without doing so was either suicide or a guarantee that you wouldn't last the level. Almost every other level was relatively simple by comparison (even the often-moaned-about Tusken and Death Sticks Factory levels have an above-average chance of being finished on the first try or two). Anyways, yeah, for Jango content, the Jango Fett/Zam Wesell duo isn't bad, but I'd definitely recommend Open Seasons (and the Bounty Hunter game). I'd also suggest checking out "Blood Ties: A Tale of Jango and Boba Fett" & "Blood Ties: Boba Fett is Dead" as they both deal with Jango and his legacy.
Heh, I saw the trailer as a bonus on the 2002 game The Clone Wars. I was immediately hooked. And my advice for the prison level: stealth and patience. Makes it wicked easy and fun.
