ROTJ-Ewoks DO Speak Basic!

Just reciently watched all of the Star Wars Films(Well, minus Episode III that is) and I noticed something HILARIOUS in Return of the Jedi.

After Han and Luke and all of the are surrounded by the Ewoks after they are cut loose from the net, and C-3PO sits up and the Ewoks worship him, he says..

"Treato dogra, esoyoto amuno noka."
The camera then cuts to two Ewoks and the one Ewok on the left turns to the other one and speaks BASIC!(or at least it sounds DEAD ON like it). He says what sounds like...

"That guys wise."

Check it out and tell me I'm not hearing things...

Really? Oh well.

 

If that's the moment I'm thinking of, I've always thought it sounded like the Ewok next to him responds with, "Martin Short." haha!! It's become a running gag between me and a friend.

 

Yeah thats what I thought too!

 

i though it was: More than i am short

 

I heard one say "It's a robot."

 

That's true I heard an Ewok say "that guy's wise" after C-3PO said something. I wonder if that was done on purpose or if it was meant to sound like something else.

One of the Ewoks also reels off a "yo momma"....

 

Well, Jawas speak Basic, too. What about the two running past Owen after he's conned into buying Artoo? That "I don't love you at all" wasn't coming from a womprat.

(I must be the only person who's ever heard one of those Jawas saying that, and I swear I've heard each and every time I've seen ANH since its video days).

 

If you've ever seen the Ewok movies, Caravan of Courage and Battle for Endor, you'll see that Ewoks do INDEED speak Basic.

What you are hearing is something simular. That Ewok isn't meant to say something we understand, or do the other Ewoks.

 

Evil Enano 1: That guy's wise.

Evil Enano 2: More than I'm short.

As for that jawa, I always thought it was "No one loves you at all."

 

well at the end of the non special edition ROTJ we clearly hear the ewoks sing in basic during the last part of the celebration song. heh.

edit: what's stranger to me is that ewoks somehow understand wookie.

 

Other old news: They also sing in english(and swedish).

 

And they speak dutch also.


When the 2 Ewoks are inside the at-st and attacking the pilots they say: "Hary pak hem" ("harry get him" in english)

 

of course they do
they can all say " Yum Yum!!"
