Hrm, does the line where Luke warns Jabba "not to underestimate my powers" have any connection to Anakin in Revenge of the Sith, where he says to Padme "only my new powers can save you."

Is there some power-problem going on here?

The first act of Return of the Jedi does a good job of showing how Luke is becoming a lot like Anakin before his fall. This serves a way to instill dread in the audience for fear of him falling to the Dark Side as well. His force choke of the Gamorrean guards, his black attire, and his killing of pretty much everyone in Jabba's court by destroying the sail barge, when he didn't really have to, also do this. He's flirting with the Dark Side. The fact that his second duel with Vader is extremely similar to Anakin's second duel with Tyranus will make a viewer watching the movies go "Oh crap; it's gonna happen again." Luke even has the choice to kill Vader or let him live just like Anakin had the choice to kill Tyranus or let him live. The fear of Luke falling to the Dark Side will be there with the viewer until he throws his lightsaber away. I didn't like Return of the Jedi so much until I watched it again after seeing Revenge of the Sith. Episode III definitely makes Episode VI a better movie.

No. It's more like when Anakin says "You underestimate my power!"

    What does it mean?

It means that Luke was on the Fast Track to the Dark Side in ROTJ.

I don't think he was trying to give Jabba a chance to do the right thing and to let him know that either way, Han Solo would be leaving with him. Obi-Wan Kenobi told Luke that the Force is what gives a Jedi his 'power'. There is no indication in this line that Luke is becoming like Anakin.

No it didn't allude to anything. Lucas didn't have any plans for the new trilogy. He did even plan on Luke and Leia being siblings. The original plan was to have Luke sister show up later in the movie. Why won't people stop trying to make stupid little connections to the PT. My favorite is when people try to say Obi-Wan recognized R2 and they had a little moment. "And Old Ben looks at R2 as if saying you don't say a thing old friend". It's stupid. The OT is wonderful, but Lucas didn't plan little nuances into the plot of the OT. It's a waste of time.

No. It has more connection to Yoda saying "do not underestimate the powers of the Emperor". What are you going to do then, make a connection between Luke and the Emperor? Little phrases sometimes mean something, mostly they don't mean anything.

I felt he was just bluffing, trying to intimidate Jabba. I think he knew that Jabba wouldn't take him seriously, and was trying to get Jabba thinking "well, maybe he is powerfull after all...perhaps I should do what he says". If that's not it, then I think he means it in a "don't underestimate me. I don't want to have to kill you, or use my powers if I don't have to. I'd like to resolve this peacefully, so I hope that can happen, but if I am required I will go to greater lengths if I must".

:::There is no indication in this line that Luke is becoming like Anakin.

You're wrong. There are many things, along with that line, that tend to indicate that Luke is becoming like Anakin:

The fact that he's dressed in all black, force-chokes the Gamoreans, makes statements like "Free us... or DIE!" (even Mace Windu wasn't that bombastic on the balcony of the Geonosis arena), and has a mechanical hand.

    Need any more indications?

Yeah. It definitely brought it up a few notches.

Before ROTS, I always thought of it as 'the one with the Ewoks", and now, I hardly notice them.

Its probably also along the lines of Luke being amazed at what he has learned to do, and how confident he has grown in using them. I mean, he's obviously fearless in the presence of Jabba's throne room, surrounded by a bunch of bad guys who could wax him under ordinary circumstances.

Contrary to the "good teachings" of Master Yoda and Obi Wan, power ends up corrupting all who possess it, and Luke is no exception.

    You'd probably threaten Jabba too.........

When I heard Anakin say the "You underestimate my power!!" line I just thought that Like father like son. They were both a bit too arrogant about their new powers at some point.Well Anakin was always arrogant and thought he could do anything,or that he at least should be able to do anything.Luke I think was much more realistic about his powers, which I think is part of the reason why Palpatine had a much harder time turning him.But still that moment in RotJ is a definite Anakin moment for Luke.
