ROTJ is the better than ESB, wait til you get older.

This only my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt:

When I was a teenager I absolutely LOVED ROTJ. The ewoks didn't bother me much, I loved the opening Jabba scene, and the ending with Vader/Luke/Emperor and the second death star was awesome. At that time I ranked it way higher than ESB. I found ESB too dark, and found some parts of the movie very slow. At the time I was a huge Star Wars fan, as I am now, but whenever I had a choice to rent ESB or ROTJ, I went with ROTJ.

Then I got older, and my taste changed. I am 32 years old now and everytime I watch ESB, I absolutely LOVE IT! Now everytime I watch ROTJ, I like it but, the ewoks are kiddy, the jabba scene goes on too long, but the ending is still great.

What I am getting at, is majority of people who pick ROTJ, are teenagers, early 20's. The majority of people who pick ESB, seem to be in their late 20's/early 30's. Has anyone like myself done a total 180 on your taste of ESB & ROTJ?

Now I know there are going to be some people who are 35 who are going to say they love ROTJ more, and vice versa. But I'm talking about the majority. Is ESB the only Star Wars that is more loved as you get older?

You're right. I'm a teenager and guess which movie I like better?

 

I'm in the minority. I'm 20 and I love TESB the most.

It could also be that I was never allowed to watch that one. All of my family said that TESB was a bad film and not as good as the other ones, probably because it was darker and also it had less action and was more about character problems. When I finally saw it I loved it. I think that my first time seeing it uninteruptted was in 97, atleast that is one of the first times I remember watching it all the way through. I'm sure I watched the 95 editions, but not that often.

 

I was the same way. I liked Jedi most until I was 18 or so. I still say Jedi has the best space battle out of all 6 movies, but as I grew older I also grew more pessimistic and disillusioned in general, so somewhere along the line I decided that Empire was my favourite. I take more joy out of movies where the good guys lose these days, which could be why I liked Revenge of the Sith so much. I think as of now, Empire and Sith are tied for first place for me.
But I always love how Luke gets his @$$ kicked, especially when Vader uses the force to throw things at him (this is where it becomes painfully obvious that Yoda was right and Luke was not ready to face Vader), and I also love the part when they rescue Luke and he says "Ben, why didn't you tell me?" - He sounds so bitter. If I was watching them in order (1-6) for the very first time, I bet I'd be expecting Luke to accuse Obi-Wan of betraying him in the next movie.

 

It's the same situation for me however I'm only 16 now. I used to like Jedi the most because it had action and i thought Empire moved too slow. However about a year ago i did a 180 as you did and now would much rather watch empire than jedi, although i still love them both.

 

Ya...when I was in my early and late teens. I always Loved ROTJ. It was my favorite and when I went to go see the special edition the first day it came out...I almost peed my pants. But I always found the ending slower....but I liked that.

But now I'm 20 and I prefer ESB now over ROTJ.

 

Between the ages of 11 and 20 (now) I liked ESB way better. Oddly enough I liked ROTJ best before that mainly because

I hadn't seen all of ESB possibly because they never had it on T.V I like ESB so much I even watched it in french (Which they teach in schools here). There was nothing else on ....

It was kinda cool but everyone sounded so strange because of the language change. By then I had Remembered most of what everyone was saying. Combined with my fair knowledge of french I was set. The french channel is the only channel that Ive ever seen it on T.V here except in maybe 1997(?). I wish they would show it on T.V more but Lucky me I have the tape (which is wearing down from watching!)

Looks like I'll be ready to buy the DVD soon.

 

I'm with you to a degree. I used to rank them ANH, RotJ, and ESB. Now ESB and RotJ have switched places. All still good movies, but I agree with your assesment on the good and bad parts.

ESB has always been my favorite. I preferd the duel in RoTJ though.

 

ESB was my favourite since i was three years old! And every year i age i appreciate it more and more.

 

Back in 1983 when I was 7 years old, I thought ROTJ was the best Star Wars movie. That changed when I got older.

 

When I was younger, I moved twards ROTJ, then ESB, and now my favorite is the classic, ANH.

 

ESB is my favorite.

 

I am 30 now and ESB was the first movie I saw and actually understood in the theater. (I saw ANH in the theater but didn't undertand a thing, it was a bunch of flashing lights to me). So ESB was always my favorite.

I've tried to go back and watch the OT now after watching ROTS. In two attempts, I have fallen asleep during ESB two times when Luke heads to Degobah. (I know it's blasphemy to say such things here).

I actually fell asleep once during ESB a few months ago when I got the new special edition set. Now before you begin to think I have narcalepsy, I should mention it was fairly late at night. But I didn't have the same problem with ANH or ROTJ.

So yes, I still feel ESB is great in terms of depth and character development, but the pace really sucks.

I don't want to comment on where ROTS fits in right now. It is too new. It is currently my favorite movie of all time as each of them was when it was this new so I'll comment in a few years on that.

 

ROTJ was my favorite as a kid. Now at 26 AnH and EsB are about equal for me as favorites.

ROTJ is fun as hell to watch though......anyone else feel its too short? I feel like once the Jabba stuff is done it flies by....Endor, space battle, Emperor/Vader confrontation.....DONE.

Only times it drags a bit is with some of the convos on Endor.

I wish it were longer.

 

Actually, I'm watching ROTJ right now! (I have all my entertainment in one room!) It's part of my watching the series in order.... I agree It seems really fast paced compared to TESB.

I wouldn't want them to change anything but I feel that it could be longer (Hey I don't mind watching that long) .I still like TESB the best!

 

I'm 23, and ROTJ is my favorite movie, with Empire being 2. I've always liked Jedi the best since I was little.

 

I'm about to finish watching it. LoL.

 

I am so far not following that path. I love ESB, even more than any other movie. For me, ANH ranks slightly above RotJ. I have no idea why, I guess ANH is just classic. But, yeah, ESB is by far the best.

 

I...dunno what's the point being said here. All I know is that I loved ESB the most ever since I was a wee seven (or is it eight?) year old who watched the SW movies with his cousin.

 

I definitely fall into that category. I used to love RotJ the most, but now ESB has no peer in the SW universe. I'm 33 and my favorite GL directed SW movie is... RotS. It narrowly beat ANH to third place on my overall list.

 

I'm 25 and I like ROTJ more. At least right now. I have different favorites at different times.

Exactly the same for me.

 

Yep, I also prefer ESB over ROTJ now that I'm older (33), but ANH has always been my favorite.

 

well, i always liked a new hope since it is so much more innocent. but ROTJ is better than ESB mainly because there are the teddy bear looking ewoks. lol.
