I've been wondering why the name "Cody" was chosen as that particular Clone Commander's name.

Well it was a mystery to me until my father and I went to see Revenge of the Sith the Friday after it came out. Well, after we got out of the movie, he brought up an interesting point. A popular band whose heyday was in the time when Lucas was writing the Original Trilogy was "Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen." You've probably heard of them as they broke up in 1978 but have reformed and are now going on tours across the country. Well the theory is:

Commander Cody was a favorite band of Lucas' when he was first writing the OT. He being a big fan, he inserted the name of Commander Cody to one of the clone trooper commanders in Revenge, as a homage to the band he listened to when he first began the Saga.

    Thoughts? Confirmations? Arguments?

That is a possiblity, but what I had heard is that it was a loosely-based reference to Commander Cory from the 50's sci-fi serial Space Patrol. Seeing as Lucas grew up on shows like these it's just as likely to be true as him being named for that band, but he's such a minor character that I haven't really looked into it too much.

I believe it's based off the serial hero Commando Cody. In a film class I took we saw an old trailer for Radar Men From the Moon, so the name rung a bell.

I really like this character, even though he turned into an enemy for our good guys.
Seeing him joking with Obi Wan lets Jango's legacy live on in a very interesting way. Sure, there's Boba but having a lot of almost-Jangos standing next to Obi Wan is pretty cool as well.
