Does anyone know the official rules of Sabacc? I've heard that some are given in WEG's Crisis on Cloud City.

The reason I want to know is because I'm working on making an online version of Sabacc, but at the moment I don't have all of the rules straight. Most of my knowledge comes from L. Neil Smith's Lando Calrissian trilogy, but I have also used A.C. Crispin's Rebel Dawn as well as various online descriptions as resources. However not all of the rules are covered, nor do they agree from source to source. For instance one book states that there are 78 cards while the other says 76.

So if any of you know a good official source for the rules, where I can get a copy of Crisis on Cloud City (or whether or not it has a good description of the rules), or know the rules of Sabacc in and out, please let me know.

    Thanks.

The Thrawn Trilogy Source Book from WEG gives a decent description with the basic rules. I'm away from my StarWars collection right now, but if you want when I go on next I'll post it.

Ok, I'm going to give you a quick verson because earlier I had the whole thing typed up word for word and my pest brother came in. After it was all over it was all gone. So here are just the rules:

    76 cards total.
There are four suits in the deck: sabers, staves, flasks, and coins. Each suit consists of eleven number cards (marked 1-11) and four ranked cards: the Commander (12), the Mistress(13), the Master(14), and the Ace(15).
There are also 16 face cards (2 of each 8 different cards), with specific names, symbols and values. They are the Idiot (0), the Queen of Air and Darkness (-2), Endurance (-8), Balance (-11), Demise (-13), Moderation (-14), the Evil One (-15), and the Star (-17).
Dealer start out by triggering the random 1st change to start. After that the dealer randomly triggers the change. Card values can be saved as what they are by being placed in the table's interference field which "freezes" the value.
Sabacc has hands and games (a game can have many hands). The objec of Sabacc is to have the hightest total which is less that 23 or equal to 23. A total which is more than 23, less than -23, or equal to 0 is called a 'bomb out'. Each player is dealt 2 cards to start and must always have at least 2 cards in his hand.
Sabacc has 2 different pots. The 1st pot is the 'hand pot'. It is given to whoever wins the hand. The 2nd pot is the 'sabacc pot'. It can be won in one of 2 ways ONLY.
A player wins if everyone else folds or if he locks in the highest card total less than 23. If 2 or more players tie, they participate in a 'sudden demise' -- each player is dealt one card from the deck which must be added to his locked-in hand. The best hand after this deal wins the hand pot. If there is still a tie, the pot is split.
There ary 2 ways to win a sabacc pot. 1st when a player has a total of exactly 23, this is called a 'pure sabacc'. 2nd is an 'idiot's array', which is when a player has a Idiot face card (0), a 2 value card, and a 3 value card -- a literal 23! At most tables an idiot's array beats out a pure sabacc. The game is over when the sabacc pot has been won.
Some cheats use 'skifters' that can be changed to what the players want. If caught plan on dying.

There you are. Please post a link to the finished game.

Thanks Alot! That clears up a lot of the inconsistancies. I'll let you know as soon as it's finished, but don't hold your breath. I still have to learn a little more about network programming before it will be finished. And for now it will only be text. But at least I'll be able to get the gaming system going for now.

    Go check out - http://www.the-chaos-crew.com/swrpg/swrpg/gm/files/sabacc.zip

If the file is working, you'll be able to get ahold of a copy of the rules and scans of the cards in question.

    Youre welcome. :)
