He is my favorite Artist and I find Surrealism awesome!

Has anyone else been to the exhibit in Philly? I would like to know what to expect. Also, Are they really strict on the Cameras and things because I would like to get a few shots in ;)

The Evocation of Lenin is my favorite Dali painting. I've stared at it for hours and can't figure it out, though. I guess I should know better than to try and "figure out" a Dali painting.

Heh, yeah. "What does it all mean?"

I've always been sort of intrigued by the Dali / Disney collaboration Destino.

Odd. It's like one of those wacky superhero team-ups.

Dali was a Marxist IIRCR, no?

I have no clues as to Dali's political leanings. Even if he was, that would explain the subject matter but not explain what the painting's trying to say. It's the girl in the doorway that interests me the most.

    The one with Abraham Lincon?

I know his enemy surrealists saw him as a facist but I just read he was a marxist.

If you read the Surrealists mannifesto you can learn a lot about what his paintings mean.

Ex: My 2nd favorite painting by him called "The Elephants" is a little bit easier to understand then some of his other artworks.

I've been to the Dali museum in Figueres, Spain, that was quite a trip. I also saw The Great Masturbator and Enigma of Hitler at the Reina Sofia in Madrid and Persistence of Memory in a travelling exhibition in Houston that also had Van Gogh's Starry Night (which is incredible in person).

Some of his stuff at the Figueres museum was just mind blowing, like the Mae West room and some paintings that looked distorted and could only be seen in the reflection of metal bottles.

You've been in the Dali Museum, Dani? I was there when I was 15. Loved it. One of my "lucky charms" is Dali's depiction of The Fool, the Tarot card.

An interesting life, too. His relationship with García Lorca and Buñuel, his almost obsessive love for Gala, his political leanings.

Dali was a Marxist IIRCR, no?

He was a huge Franco supporter. But who cares? He was a genius.

We had planned to go to the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres when we were in Spain a few years ago, but it was closed when we got there. We got to see some of the Sculptures he made especially for the museum though... And the museum itself was quite a sight. Beautiful architecture. I have two big prints of 'The transparent simulacrum of the feigned image' and 'The broken bridge and the dream' at home.

If you like Dali, please check out the work of Hieronymus Bosch (1450-1516). It's where it all started IMO. Although that poor bastard (Bosch) was unknowingly high on LSD (from food poisoning) when he painted most of his work.

I got some pictures uploaded from the show in Philly. I was not exactly allowed to take pictures so the quality on most are low. They also had like 2 guards in each room so I could only sneak in a few pictures.
