Wow. I just saw the movie tonight. Despite the previews which looked really really crappy, it was a great movie. I laughed the whole way through. There were so many funny things. Shaggy was perfect, and the CG Scooby wasn't as bad as I thought he'd be. The rest of the cast was decent, and I really enoyed myself. They even included a reference to the ultra-cool A Pup Named Scooby Doo But the best part of the movie was...

Scrappy Doo is the bad guy! I couldn't believe my eyes! It was perfect. I always knew that runt was evil. The perfect voice and actions for young Scrappy. It was good enough to see him thrown out of the Mystery Machine, but to be the bad guy of the movie! It was too much!! I've always hated Scrappy and I knew he was evil!

It was such a good movie. I couldn't have been happier.

Just an interesting tidbit that I just discovered, Mxpx sings the Scooby Doo theme in the movie. I didn't know it was them. They're one of my favorite bands.

I'm not wasting my money on seeing it, but what's the storyline? How'd they fit Scrappy into it at all? Let alone be the bad guy. And how was he the bad guy>?

    Ok. The plot.

The gang solves a normal, everyday mystery. After the villian is unmasked, Fred is gloating over himself, and Daphne is complaining about how she's always the damsel in distress. A reporter asks Fred how they do it, and he takes credit for Thelma's plan. They all get in a fight, and Mysteries Inc splits up, despite Shaggy's attempt to keep the group together.

Two years later, the gang each gets a letter to go to Spooky Island, a theme park, to solve a mystery individually. When they each see each other, they are all determined to outdo each other and solve the mystery first. It seems that the island is draining all of the college kids of their energy and returning them empty shells of their former selves. The owner of the island (the guy who plays Mr Bean) asks the gang to find out what's going on.
They go around, find clues, and finally end up in the same broken down ride. They split up, and to make a long story short, discover that there's an ancient race of creatures that lives on the island. They're harvesting the souls of the college student to create enough energy for their leader to take over the world for a million years, or something like that. All they need is a pure soul, which turns out to be Scooby Doo.
It turns out that the owner of the island is the leader of the cult, and the ceremony is that night, and they've already kidnapped Scooby.
They're about to harvest Scooby's soul, when Shaggy tips over the soul caldron thing, and the island owner falls down. It turns out that the owner is a robot. Inside the robot is Scrappy Doo, who's still bitter about being kicked off of Mysteries Inc because he was so darn annoying. He uses the energy he harvested to grow huge and chase the gang around. They defeat him and he shrinks back to normal size, but still gives the "put up your dukes" routine until Scooby smacks him upside the head.

That's about it in a nutshell. Of course, a lot more happens, and I skipped a bunch of funny parts, but that's the main basic plot.

So basically the whole movie ends up to be a harmless little ploy? How....unexpected and...disappointing...

But then again, it is a kids movie. :p

Was their any scenes of Shaggy & Scooby coming out of the back of the Mystery Machine and a plume of smoke comes out? Kind of like that scene in "Jay & Silent Bob Strikes Back"?

Did they get the munchies? Did they explain what in the hell the Scooby Snacks were? Were they shrooms?

I think they cleared all that stuff up. Shaggy (in the movie) is not a pothead, Velma's straight, and I guess Daphne and Fred aren't together. *shrugs* :)

I bet Scrappy would have gotten away with it too...if it wasn't for those meddling kids!!!

I always liked Scrappy, at least he could speak without an impediment. I might have to see this just for Scrappy.

A crappy christian punk band singing the theme and a movie that will in all likely hood suck. What a combo!

Yes, there was a scene like that, but it turns out that the smoke was from pancakes that they were cooking in the van, not drugs.

It actually wasn't a helpless little ploy, though. Scrappy was going to take over the world.

It wasn't pancakes, it was eggplant hamburgers. (and then he put chocolates syrup on it) SMG confirmed on TRL a few days ago, there was a scene filmed where she kissed Velma, but it was cut because it was too steamy. Maybe it'll be a cut scene on the tape/dvd.

Overall, I was extremely dissapointed with the film. Had no clue who sang the theme song. Never cared for Sugar Ray. Always hated Scrappy Doo. I almost stood up and screamed when he appeared in the movie. That was $5 I could've spent on something else.

Well, at least they acknowledged every season, up until everyone left after Scrappy came on. That's when the series went downhill.
