San Diego, CA SDSWS Trip To Location Where ROTJ Was Filmed, March 8th-9th!

One of our members is planning a trip to the location out in the Desert(Imperial Dunes) where the sand barge scene was filmed for ROTJ. The trip will be on March 8th-9th! Michael Davis was kind enough to invite the SDSWS to join him. Michael was also priveledged to watch the actual filming of ROTJ for a few days back in 1982, so I think he is the perfect person to lead this expedition. The trip is a three hour drive from San Diego. We did Cathedral City, so I think we can do this trip! I am going to bring all the Star Wars costumes I have, and my R2-D2 cooler and C3PO standee so I can get pictures of them "walking" toward a photoshopped Jabba's palace. I hope Jawajames can come and be a Jawa, and I hope my stormtrooper armor arrives by then so we can do some fun Tatooine scenes. And of course DarthBrian can wear his Slave Girl Leia outfit as well.

We will possibly be camping out in the desert for one night depending on the daily conditions (sand storms pick-up unexpectedly out there). Or you can be a wuss like me and stay in a motel in Yuma. I had an RV, but it was sold last month.

Woah I used to camp out there all the time but I had no clue ROTJ was filmed there. We should also make a trip to the redwood forest and tell everyone to bring a stuffed teddy bear...

 

NOOO!!! That sound like sooooo much fun, but I can't make it. I've got some stupid test to take that day. Be sure to post plenty of pics!

actually, im just bumping this thread, as it is getting closer!

 

The trip is still on, in fact March 8th is Mike Davis' birthday. He says it might be quite cold out there in March so we should plan accordingly. I still plan on being a wimp and will be staying at a motel in Yuma overnight.

 

i would love to go...but as my household is limited to one car at the moment. I would need to car pool with someone. Any Takers?

 

I could take you Jeff... but I don't know if you want to ride with me ever again, that is if Collin is coming and is going to be kicking the back of your seat the entire way. I will most likely have the kids that weekend. I could make Collin sit in the back. Maybe we could tell him that in order to join the 501st, he has to sit in the back seat and be quiet the entire trip?

Count me as seriously interested, but I'm not sure my car will make it. It has a tend to overheat on long trips.

cool...i live in PB! whomever i would ride with i need room for trooper gear. What activities would be planned, i'm kinda curious...

 

I might (doubtfully) be able to borrow my dad's Jeep when I head out there on the 9th...it's not 4WD, but it's got it where it counts. Though I'd have a better chance of bartering with a Rancor. Can't wait for this trip!!

What if we made a mini SDSWS fanfilm? I've got a camera and all the editing and FX software plus the knowledge. We could have like a giant battle with SDSWS members in the dunes!
