Attachment is forbidden, but it is a temptation that runs through several generations of Jedi. Obi-Wan Kenobi struggled with his emotions as a young man, as he denied himself his feelings for fellow Padawan Siri Tachi. His mentor, Qui-Gon Jinn, knew full well the dangers of such feelings, and instructed his pupil on how to concentrate on the tasks at hand.
Years later, Obi-Wan's apprentice finds himself similarly torn. Anakin Skywalker is secretly married to Padmé Amidala, but as the Clone Wars rage on, he and Kenobi have pressing missions to attend to. One such duty sees Obi-Wan, Anakin and Siri drawn into a race to acquire a valuable piece of technology before it falls into the wrong hands.

This story is told in Star Wars: Secrets of the Jedi, a new novel by Jude Watson for Scholastic, Inc. In the tradition of Legacy of the Jedi, this book spans generations of Jedi, telling a tale that is both epic and personal.

This hardcover novel is scheduled for release in March, 2005.

Ah so I see that we wont be seeing any more on Dooku & Qui-Gon's past then....hehe and certainly nothing with Dooku and Yoda....haha pretty much shows that Lucasbooks earlier foul up made them rethink about all this.

Anyway Its Jude Watson, and I have been severely disappointed with her works although her palpatine was very good in JQ#9.

I might get this book, although I'm skeptical about how this will be done (I'm rolling my eyes at the idea of Obi-Wan having feelings for Siri....that aint the Obi-Wan I've seen).

And I thought the EU wasn't meant to touch Anakin & Padme's relationship? Or is the synopsis misleading (as they always are) us?
Will it just skirt around the issue with Obi-Wan thinking alot about it and conversations with Anakin taking place?

Questions abound but in any case this will be a cheap buy and I'll take the risk.

I do feel that they've jumped the gun on Obi-Wan's alertiveness about a bond between Padme and Anakin....lets hope you don't contradict things in EP3.

Legacy of the Jedi # 1 was terrific, so I have great hope in this one. I also wouldn't rule out Dooku and Qui-Gon juuuuuuust yet ;-)

As for contradicting Episode III, no, I'm pretty sure that, like Elizabeth Hand, Randy Stradley, John Ostrander, James Luceno, and Haden Blackman, Jude Watson had read the screenplay before writing this book.

Think of it this way. New ammunition for fanfic authors who want Obi-Wan to have children.

Wha?! Obi-Wan held a candle for Siri?!

I always thought they had an adversarial relationship.

    Hmmm...

EDIT: Does anyone else find it hypocritical of Qui-Gon to have told Obi-Wan to "focus on the task at hand" considering how flibbedy-nuts Qui-Gon went with Tahl's death.

Even though I like the Siri/Obi ship I find it really hard to see realistically, cause this is Obi Wan, he rarely steps out of line since Melida/Daan and him suddenly having feelings for Siri is kinds strange. Was his feelings for Siri ever mentioned in the JA books because I just saw annoyance and admirartion.

I guess a good thing about this is that maybe Obi Wan can understand Anakin a little better.

I guess a good thing about this is that maybe Obi Wan can understand Anakin a little better.

Unfortunately in this instance Obi-Wan isn't meant to understand Anakin, the idea of a bond as strong as Anakin has with Padme is something that is supposed to be foreign to Obi-Wan and every other Jedi.
But then the EU has a nature of its own.

I havent read the JA series but I think Obi-Wan's (or the EU version of him) frustration and annoyance towards her probably harbours more emotional weight than you'd think.

I think Obi Wan Kenobi is a character that should be characterized as a rebel who was always afraid to be himself after screwing up. Obi Wan was nearly a jedi washout, left the Jedi order (Lost 20 at 14!), and constantly was following Qui Gon on some damn fool idealistic crusade like his...well you get the idea.

It's only around Anakin that he feels the need to always tow the line, say the right thing, and not forget to bow on the way out. He's overcompensating in a BIG way not only for his own failures but to set a good example for the boy.

Yet I want to point out on MISSIONS Obi Wan Kenobi as soon as he is out of the Jedi Council's sight becomes a reckless thoroughbread. He leaps out of windows, he rushes head on in with lightsabers, he gets in fist fights with bounty hunters, and he is loose with his interpretation of his orders

Classic "Do as I say not as I do." problem

Obi Wan Kenobi is best friends with Siri and feelings emerging during war is entirely natural between them. His control over his feelings has always been specious at best....

And Obi Wan doesn't realize that's his STRENGTH

Gentlemen, let's all concentrate on that summary... It mentions Obi-wan developing feelings for Siri when he's young (and Qui-Gon is still alive) and denying it; Qui-Gon helps him with that, because he knows that your mind can go up the creek if you allow attachment. nothing wrong there. and in the Clone wars part, there's no mention of Obi-Wan finding out about the wedding. I guess he already knows about the feelings, though... ;) there's been a lot of smooching on Geonosis...

Somehow Obi-Wan's "feelings" make sense as young Ben is a boy growing up, being constantly in emotionally stressed situations with this girl (think about how many missions they had together). annoyance can well change to respect once the problems in the relationship are solved. Respect can then turn to love. But this doesn't have to mean the concept of "wholesome love" or whatever you call it that drives anakin and Padmé toward their fate (and invaded the Qui-Gon/Tahl-relationship). Once Obi-Wan is "cured" from his crush, I find it plausible that he goes on admiring her as a person and a friend, glad that he overcame that momentary feeling. But anyway, isn't this rather about wars than about teenager crushes? and where does this smell of soap come from...?

Of course it's questionable whether they should raise the topic of loving Jedi except for Padmé and anakin. But it's great to see Obi-wan being the troublemaker who's giving Yoda the wrinkles (as mentioned on Dagobah).

Last note, I doubt there'll be additional Dooku stories in this one - why should they forget to mention those? Plus, those wouldn't fit the topic. Making a connection between Padmé and the Tahl case makes sense.

Obi-Wan and Siri...saw that happening a long time ago. I love the Obi-Wan/Siri relationship

Anyone whose read JQ can see that Obi and Siri have that We're-going-to-mock-each-other-than-laugh-about-it relationship. They tease each other all the time and he relies on her help to track down the reoccuring bad guy.

When I found out about this book, needless to say, I spazzed out. I've been a longtime fan of Obi/Siri, and I always wondered why there was little attention payed to their relationship. I mean, it seemed they went from reluctant friendship in JA to being best friends in JQ. Something was a bit fishy (I hate that word). I think this will be a good book.

Yeah, if this is half as good as Legacy of the Jedi it'll be good.

Make the chapters 100 pages instead of 50 and it'll be a sure fire winner...

I was hoping we'd see the Storm Fleet again in this one but judging by the summary we wont...

I'm predicting Tachi will die in this book. It will provide emotional depth for Kenobi . . . and the way the synopsis whispers, it's almost expected.

As depressing as that would be, it would explain why she doesn't appear in any Clone War books. I mean, outside of JA, JQ, and Secrets, her only appearance was in the Jedi Starfighter video game. My bet is Ferus dies in JQ 10 and Siri probably will die in this book.

Siri nearly captured young Boba when he returned to Kamino to pick up the holobook that Jango left for him. Also, Obi-Wan hinted in Cestus Deception that he had once developed feelings for someone despite the fact that attachment is forbidden for a Jedi. This was in a discussion with Jangotat about his relationship with Sheeka Tull. So this isn't completely out of nowhere. I also always foresaw Obi-Wan's relationship with Siri changing from adversarial to romantic as time passed. They went on many missions together and even Jedi teenagers have raging hormones. lol
I'm really looking forward to this one although I wish they had found someway to include Young Dooku and Young Qui-Gon storylines too.

Well maybe when the order gets destroyed by Palps he'll give into his feelings for her, knowing that it doesn't matter. If she lives that long. I guess she will die somewhere, Obi would probaly have taken her with him if he loved her.
