A/N: Of the reasons to have insomnia at 4AM? A plot bunny, requested, that might make me cry, even if the origins were actually hilarious… I’ll take it. Ish wanted a fanfic based around a funny cake. I can do that. (For clarity, I was at Safeway the day after Valentines Day and there was a plethora of cutesy cakes left over. One of them was hilarious and I posted a pic of it to my insta, and Ish’s comment on it was: “I want a fanfic with this as the centerpiece.”)
And... okay. One requested story involving a cake it is, even if I've not written SW in a while and was instead tunnel visioned on sleepy, traumatized Naval Aviators.

Disclaimer: So long as we’re paying tribute? To again quote Brightfeather on this occasion… “I borrowed them, hugged them, squeezed them, called them George, and put them back like a good girl.”

A peaceful melody was playing as she entered their home, the stillness at once making the hair on her arms stand on end. What was this, that no one was running or yelling? Setting down her things on the shelf near the door, she glimpsed something on the bit of kitchen counter that she could see from where she was standing. Was that a cake? A very odd, upright cake?

Things forgotten, she moved into the kitchen space to get a closer look at it, only to stare, perplexed at the words written in the icing. On it, printed, rather than as icing itself.

Meh. I’m so happy I settled. There’s no one else I’d rather annoy. Not sick of you yet. Meh.

A giggle sounded, she blinked, and then another escaped. And then another.

“Ah, you’re early,” Han’s voice, smug and confident, sounded from behind her. “Like it?”

“Where did you find this monstrosity?”

“Bakery.” He joined her at the counter and he turned her towards him, kissing her hand as he did so. “The kids are with Winter tonight.”

Leia stared at him, then glanced at the cake again. “Why?”

“Because,” Han said as he pulled her closer. “I’ve never celebrated a proper Love Day with you. In fact, I think we were either running for our lives or being shot at, or apart, and celebrations were hard to come by. Normally, people do this kind of thing in a different order, but…”

Leia nodded and pulled him the last bit closer into a shared kiss. Yes, that made sense… right down to the music and the funny cake. “Peace time, to make time for missed things?”

“Exactly that,” Han agreed. “Dinner or dessert first?”

She glanced at the cake, smiled. “Is dinner worth waiting for it?”

“I’d like to think so.”

“Dinner, then.”

Dinner turned out to be a selection of dishes he’d be practicing without her knowing, from both his culture and hers. It did indeed make the cake worth waiting for.

 

SQUEE! That is so THEM! I love them and this is sweet. A moment of shared loving lovableness.
