A feature film.

I start production on "SDNP" this Saturday, filming all the way through August 1st. We're filming in Southern California - more specifically in parts of Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Palmdale, and San Clemente. I'll be looking for various crew, extras, etc. through the entire duration of filming. It's going to be a very fun shoot and very fun movie. We're aiming for a wide DVD release (Blockbuster and the like) when it's all said and done, but wrapping the movie up first is priority one.

The movie is roughly based off of my two student films, "Sex" and "Drugs", kinda taking those ideas - but going back and really trying to make a feature film cult film that could do well in the DVD market (or larger, but we're not going to aim that high just yet).

If only there had been some sort of explanation of this in the first post. Perhaps in the third paragraph, for instance, he could have mentioned by name his student films "Sex" and "Drugs".

The film I saw (I would swear) was not called either "Sex" or "Drugs" but was called "Sex, Drugs, and Natalie Portman" and came out several years ago. I do not remember the name of the person who made said film. It appeared to be a complete film with no room for sequels but apparently I'm thinking of something else due to your comment. Pardon me for being human. I should have known better than to be human, especially on this board.

Are you looking for production crew only? If not, and you guys are in need of a composer, I'd be more than willing to help out.

 

I believe 'Sex' was originally released under the name 'Sex Drugs and Natalie Portman' which was changed to be used for the trilogy instead. 'Drug' also opens with a 'Sex Drugs and Natalie Portman' title card which fades to simply 'Drugs'

We were waiting for the "Natalie Portman" installment of the trilogy. However, this sounds like a promising bit to recieve instead. I wish I could somehow help, but we're on opposite sides of the country. I'm sure you'll all do great, I'm looking forward to it.

I wonder what Natalie'll think, should it become something marketable. You may want to study up in that area.

What sort of crew will you be looking for - physical production or some post as well? Either way it's cool to hear about this, be sure to keep us up to date.

As for crew, I'm really just looking for people interested in helping shoot for a day or two or more for the heck of it. I don't enjoy the filmmaking process with traditional crew titles - and am really just looking for know-it-all's to handle multiple jobs. I've already got a DP, and mainly I'll be looking for general PA's, some grips, boom operators, etc. As far as a composer goes, we've got that angle covered already. This shoot is going to be a lot of fun, unlike most shoots, and all the cast involved this far are just fun to be around. It'll be more like a two month barbecue than a film shoot.

There's going to be some compositing work on this one... Some asteroid effects as well as some, uh, much larger effects (I don't know how to word that correctly without ruining some of the plot). I'm still searching for some talented FX folk.

As far as editing, etc... We got that base covered and then some. Sound mixing we're looking around for still, but you can imagine the difficulty with our lower than low budget.

Now would I honestly ever report that here? If there were any chance of that happening, no one here would know until they saw her on the big screen.

I second that idea, without really knowing what CAA is. I assume a casting agency. If you do, it couldn't hurt to submit a package, links/DVD of SDNP in it's original form, perhaps mention how NP2k got it's name, things like that.

It's definitely worth a shot.
