Shakira. Excuse me, did she just sing what I thought she did?

Shakira's song Whenever, Forever (at least that's what I think it's called) has a line that seems very strange to me.

Now, does she actually sing this line or am I dreaming:

Are these crappy pop artists unable to sell albums without sexual references in them or something?

EDIT: Turns out she has another song called "Underneath Your Clothes". Guess I just answered my own question.

 

The story I heard was that she didn't know english well enough to know what she was saying, and was furious later on.

But she writes her own songs, so that can't be right.

 

I didn't understand any of the rest of the song, I didn't even know it was whenever, wherever.

I just head the word breasts and fell over laughing.

Look out - it's Mount Fuji and Kilamanjaro right next to each other! Oh no sorry, that's just Shakira, those are way too humble to be mountains.

It's much better in Spanish. "Suerte que mis pechos sean pequenos, si no los confundas con montanas"



Of course, the whole damn song is better in Spanish. That's basically the only line that's a direct translation. The Spanish meaning of the song is MUCH MUCH better.

She's kidding herself if she describes them as "small and humble". They barely exist.

It's gotta be the worst lyrics to a song I've heard since that song a few years ago that goes I don't want to see a ghost, that's the sight I fear most, I'd rather have a piece of toast and watch the evening news.

a)sing (which is more than I can say for some pop singers today)
b)play an instrument (see above)
c)write good lyrics (ok, just append this to all of them)
d)write lyrics bilingually

I heart Piez Descalsos. I'm not such a fan of her english stuff, but she's not just another Britney.

 

Shakira is hot.

And the line is bad. Plus at least she is fine about it, whereas they are much bigger than a certain Star Wars Hottie (no, not Hayden, Natalie)

Shakira = breathtakingly natural
Britney = supertramp

gloria estefan offered to write her lyrics years ago for english music but she refused, saying she wanted to write her own. that's why they're kind of weird. because she's learning english and writing lyrics at the same time.

okay, so her english stuff kind of sucks. but her spanish stuff is amazing. don't knock it 'till you've tried it.

I wasn't knocking her other stuff - I've never heard it. I've just never heard anyone sing about how small their boobs are and compare them with mountains.

It's very funny.

 

I met Shakira yesterday.

She was pleasant, charming and witty, despite having signed ~4,000 autographs for fans an hour before.

In all the interviews she did here (in New Zealand) she answered with well considered, articulate, intelligent & funny replies.

If you don't like pop music, that's your perogative. But it's a big genre, and you're not giving a lot of very talented musicians a chance by dismissing them all.

And you shouldn't equate hatred of a song with hatred of the singer (especially one you've never met). That's ridiculous.

EDIT: That last comment was not directed at anyone in particular, just a general thought.

 

She is hot.

And she is talented. You cant take that away from her.
