I went a screening this morning, and WOW!!!! Hayden was INCREDIBLE! I kept flip-flopping between feeling sorry for his character and having absolutely no empathy for him whatsoever. Peter Sarsgaard was amazing as well--there was no pomp and show in his performance.

This really is an excellent film, not just because of the actors' talent, but because it's intriguing, moving, and suspenseful, without the Hollywood explosions, stunts, and special effects, and I really hope Billy Ray (writer/director) does more of these films.

How about if we don't have anything to say regarding the original topic, we don't post anything at all? [face_plain]

I'm sorry for helping to steer this thread off topic, Jade.

Stephen Glass was an assistant editor at The New Republic, a liberal, public policy magazine, who fabricated, I believe, 27 of 41 stories. Some were partly based on fact, some he completely pulled out of his ass. The last one he ever wrote was "Hack Heaven," about a teenage hacker who gets hired by a major software company after the kid messes around with their website. When Forbes' online magazine tried to do a follow-up, they found out that none of the people Glass mentioned in his article existed. Jayson Blair is nothing compared to this guy!

Glass's articles were the kind that made you think, "Whoa! Where the hell does he get this stuff from?" The most amazing thing is that in order to fool the NR fact-checkers, he actually made up fake notes, fake business cards, created a fake website, provided phone numbers that always connected only to voicemail, etc--I mean, this guy went all out just so he could get a flashy story published. So film is about how Glass's fall from grace (when he was only 25), and it's really good.

    My thread got locked

    But here, a repost :)

Now playing in selected cities, Only.

Movie rating - 97% so far

Hayden's specific quotes ... (Yes, a lot of negative comments about his acting in SW, but what's new? What's new is IN THIS movie Critics loves him!!!)

For those who know Hayden Christensen only as Anakin Skywalker, you are in for a treat. He shows you the real skill he has at his craft, without the help of a single blue screen! And even as a geek squared he's still edibly cute.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hayden Christensen is so good in the role ? atop his splendid performance as a different kind of disturbed youth in 2001's Life as a House? that you wonder anew what went wrong with his performance as Anakin Skywalker in the last Star Wars.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hayden Christensen has proven that he is one heck of a good actor -- when you get him away from George Lucas' wooden dialogue and tepid direction.

In "Life As A House," and now in "Shattered Glass," Christensen has given intense, thoughtful performances which mark him as one of the industry's top new talents -- while highlighting just how bad the past two "Star Wars" films have actually been.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If Christensen's wooden turn in STAR WARS EPISODE II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES was one of that movie's biggest disappointments, his extraordinary performance here comes as a revelation. With his male-model looks hidden behind a pair of geeky glasses and a bad haircut, Christensen is Stephen Glass, and a very good actor indeed.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hayden Christensen, best known as Anakin Skywalker in the ?Star Wars? prequel films is astonishingly very good in his portrayal as the bookish wanna-be, Glass, combining a performance of vulnerability, likeability and vital sneakiness. If anything, it proves Lucas demands the most wooden performances possible from his ?Star Wars? cast ? because Christensen seems to be determined to act here.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As is often the case, it is Christensen as the villain, who has the best part. After seeing him in Attack of the Clones, I was expecting very little from his performance. As a result, I was completely blown away by his acting here.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Glass is played by Hayden Christiansen who is puzzlingly good in the role; puzzling because he is so laughably awful as Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Remarkably, he is playing over his age here, and he creates a character who is both fascinating and frightening, impish and seductive, sympathetic and detestable. It's a remarkable performance

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If there were acting Pulitzers, they should go to Hayden Christensen ...Hayden Christensen immerses himself completely and chillingly into the skin of Glass, who was fired in 1998 for fudging and inventing the facts in 27 of 41 pieces he wrote as an associate editor for The New Republic. Christensen, whose ascendance to the DeCaprio throne was undone by a gelatinous turn in the last "Star Wars" installment, is the charismatic embodiment of a young man who instinctively understood how to temper the art of showmanship with the craft of false humility.

Wow....those reviews sure are ripping into his performance as Anakin...and into GL and SW in general...kinda lame.

But anyways...I'm looking forward to this movie immensely. Hayden is an awesome actor...who has been fantastic in both movies I've seen him in. I knew that this wouldn't be any different. ;)

So....it went into limited release yesterday...when does it go into wide release? Does anyone know? :)

    "DiCaprio throne?" "Gelatinous turn?"

Okay, I don't know about that, but I'm glad to see a lot of these critics are eating their words. I've been telling people that Hayden rocks ever since I saw "Life As A House." :D

"Shattered Glass" sounds extremely cool. I just hope the dude it's based on isn't profiting from the big-screen treatment of his misconduct. That would be tacky.

I don't think he is. The writer/director, Billy Ray, said at the screening I went to that he was almost hoping Glass would sue--that way, they'd get free publicity :p

Even the New York Times loved Hayden, and they're usually so snooty when it comes to movies. I guess they ahd to say something nice after the whole Jayson Blair bit *snicker*

The IMDb says that the Nov. 14 release is "limited". Just how limited are we talking here? I REALLY wanna see this film! I'm a big fan of Steve Zahn and I don't want to have to wait for a rental. :(
