In my dreams here, I have seen the destruction of the Jedi. The death of the Republic. I have seen the Temple in ruins, the Senate smashed, and Coruscant itself shattered by orbital bombardment from immense ships of impossible design. I have seen Coruscant, the seat of galactic culture, become a jungle far more hostile and alien than any on Haruun Kal. I have seen the end of civilization. -Mace Windu, Shatterpoint I've seen some people have this in their manual sig, and I've seen it on other websites and the like. I haven't read Shatterpoint, mostly because of the price, but I'm sure I will when it's paperback. Anyway, my question is, what's it referring to? Is he talking about the NJO and the Yuuzhan Vong, or the fall of the Old Republic? Beat you to it.
He was having a dream vision about the fall of the Republic that was soon to come. There were a lot of visions and dreams invovled with the failure at Geonosis, but I'll let someone else exlain them, as I don't want to get confused and say the wrong thing about one of the visions.
I haven't read Shatterpointe either but I'm pretty sure it means the end of the Old Republic, because that makes more sense since Mace is in the era of the OR. Also it says the Temple is in ruins. There was no Jedi Temple in NJO.
Even__Piell: Actually, I'd consider the Massassi Temple on Yavin 4 the Jedi Temple of the NJO, but yes, the quote is referring to the Old Republic. Technically, though, it could be about the NJO, if you think about it...
I know, but seeing the Temple in ruins could be seen as an analogy when relating the vision to the NJO. But, as I said, it's to the Old Republic, it's just interesting to think of it as the NJO too.

I have seen the end of civilization. what if his dream is not just one static image.. the destruction of all this.. but a gradual process... first the destruction of the jedi... then the death of the republic... the temple in ruins and then destruction of the senate ... then later on... Coruscant being bombarded and then later Coruscant turning into a jungle. and finally the end of civilization... basically rather than seeing a point in future history.. he sees all of future history.
Well put Jawa james, I believe it is the authors attempt to like the Prequal era to the NJO, though it seems more likely he's talking of the fall of the Old Republic. Its just he says Couruscant becomes a jungle... Maybe its not a literal jungle. Who knows.
In Traitor Lord Nyax and Luke did battle on Yuuzhan'tar (Coruscant) over the ruins of the Old Republic Jedi Temple. Traitor was written by Stover as was Shatterpoint. IMO it is a direct reference to the NJO.
I don't interepret that to be one static image. Like revelations of the Bible it covers multiple eras.
The part about it being a jungle seems more in reference to one of the key themes in Shatterpoint, but linking it to the NJO, it could also be in a literal sense, as the Vong are anti-tech.
He's having multiple visions of the future- seeing the next 50 years in only a few images like the fall of the Jedi and the later fall of Coruscant covered by the spawning Yuuzhan'tar.
He's more than likely talking about the fall of the Old Republic, because the jedi aren't destroyed in the NJO...
He's more than likely talking about the fall of the Old Republic, because the jedi aren't destroyed in the NJO... Yet the NJO isn't over yet.
[roll_eyes.gif] Mace is seeing the fall of the Republic and the rise of the Empire. The jungle he speaks of its not a literal one, it is figurative. As in Coruscant will be a dangerous place where evil lurks anywhere and everywhere. No matter what fans of the NJO think, Mace is describing the events of his era nowhere else.
