    Since Shenmue II is slated to be released for the X-Box...
    [image=http://www.shenmue.com/image/main/picture02.jpg]

    I thought that I'd take time to get some of you guys to play what started the bit...Shenmue for Dreamcast...What is Shenmue? Well it is one of the best games ever made...
    [image=http://www.videogameforce.com/imagesSDC/shenmue.jpg]
    What makes Shenmue so different from other games is that it is not played...it is experienced... When you play Shenmue you become the character. Now many games have made that promise before but none had delivered it until Shenmue... I cannot describe it in words...it can only be understood after playing...sure there are fighting bits and motorcycle riding but everything falls together to become the most life like game ever...

    The Story of Shenmue is not about the end of the World or something cheesy like that...it is the story of Ryo Hazuki whose father was murdered by the great Lan Di... Ryo suspects that Lan Di is THE master of the Chinese cartel... The ensuing investigation makes for one hell of a story which you experience first hand...also it is a story of a son's revenge...The cool thing is that Ryo's father was one of the greatest sensais ever...so Ryo is an awesome karate dude but he never uses his skills unless he is in dire need...

    Every day you get up at a certain time and could go to the market...even work out at the park...or you can also go play with the little children...It just lets you feel how a regular Japanese guy lives and a beautiful Japanese neighborhood...pay extra attention to the elderly...as they will give you the best advice... :)

    Also there is a love story involving Ryo's friend (wink, wink, nudge, nudge), the cute Nozomi, who is having problems and stuff...I guess this is what makes Shenmue so life like: it really focuses on the little things...like a kitten that you find and feed everyday...or the little vending machines...or the allowance...Ryo's beautiful garden and dojo...or the little fish in the cute little pond in the garden...the way Ryo always gets along with everyone: from animals to little kids to old people...

    So please get a Dreamcast...they are selling for like twenty bucks and set aside fifteen or twenty hours...(Shenmue I is short since it is just the first chapter of the saga)... Shenmue II for X-Box also includes a bonus: Shenmue: The Movie DVD...which is like 40 bucks when bought alone...

    So for a truly awesome experience please play this game...its got it ALL...Matrix effects...awesome CG...detective work...Metal Gear Solid style slinking...kung fu fest...beautiful love story...classic arcade games...loads of cool Japanese stuff...oh and many, many cutie pies :D

    I love Shenmue. XBOX is truly the place to deliver RPG. KOTOR should be real good too.

    I have the first one...but got bored pretty fast with it. It looked great though. I probably won't get the new one though....and I'm a big Sega fan too. Oh well..they have a great line up for X-Box anyway.

    I would like to add that since the only console I own is an 8-bit original NES (with parallel port soldered in)... I bought Bases Loaded for $4.99 today. EB got some NES games in for sale. woooooo... :)

    Oh...no, Mayhem...many made that mistake and now are missing out on something good...you just have to get the hang of it...but I do agree...the game is not for everyone...I mean the whole live another life can get kind of...well huge...but I think MOST people can enjoy it...

    Shenmue I got good at the end of the second disc and went uphill from there...and, judging from what I have heard about it, Shenmue II it is even faster... Plus you have to consider that just the first two chapters are like six cd's so the first two have to be an intro into the world...I'll be playing Shenmue I to get ready for II...I think they said that somehow they'll let us import the save from the old one...I hope that is correct...

    edit-small stuff

    dp4m.... What do you do with the parallel port?

    Every year at Carnegie Mellon in April we have what's called "Carnival," where fraternities/sororities create booths and games and we hire actual carnies and pretty much all of PIT shows up during the weekend. This has been going on since early-1900s (it was "Tech Fair" back then).

    We decided we would make the first ever computer game for Carnival (1996). So we had two guys programming PASCAL to interpret light-gun signals through the NES/Parallel port into a PC. We created a "Shoot the Energizer Bunny" game.

    We are total geeks. And it was a LOT of fun. :)
