Can someone explain the song "Brick" by Ben Folds Five to me?

At first I thought that the girl had cancer, and then I figured that she must be pregnant, but now someone told me she had an abortion and I'm confused.

Help? ?

Generally, I try to stay away from music. It confuses me reguarly.

 

It's about an abortion.

The line "She's a brink and I'm drowning slowly" means that she hit the bottom fast (brokedown) and he's slowly getting there himself.

 

I'm pretty sure Ben Folds himself said it was about a girl who gets an abortion, with the most popular alternate meaning being about a girl who has to have her dog put to sleep. I don't get it either.

Calling her a brick is saying that she is weighing him down, hence the comparison to drowning.

The lyrics are hard to uncerstand when he is singing it, but when you read them it makes more sense.

"Brick" is by Ben Folds Five, he's gone solo since than and is now just Ben Folds.

Yep, when he uped and moved here to Oz, he went solo and dropped the "Five".
