I just wanted to get you all's opinion on this ship while it is still a WIP so I can make changes.

Did you greeble it yourself, or did you use the greeble plug-in? I'm guessing the plug-in...it shows.

Yeah, you can kinda tell that it isn't the greeble plug-in; there's a bit too much order to it. But still, it doesn't really suggest machinery to me, just a bunch of layered boxes.

For ideas on how to greeble, you can always check out the work I'm doing for A Vow of Revenge. The first couple of images on the thread for it show my progress on a ship kind of similar to what you've got. I gave up on the whole concept, though.

    Sorry, I misspoke.

I think what you need to do is get a better sense of where you want to go with the ship. The greebled parts make it seem like a utilitarian, no frills design, whereas the smooth, rounded parts give it a more graceful look. As it stands now, they aren't really reconciled and create too much contrast.

for the top part, i meant that to be more like texture rather than greebling. I am HOPELESS at texturing and i thought modeling some detail would be better.

    Update (if anyone cares)

Is this better? or is this more of stuff you don't like?

    Hey man,

Its an interest design - just try not to take everyone's suggestions to heart. They're giving good advice. This is certainly much better than I can do.

The main body of the craft is sort of deceiving. Its very bulky, so I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a big vessel, or a smaller fighter. If its supposed to be a fighter, I'd suggest making the fuselage less blocky - blockiness generally gives the perception of size.

Keep on posting your progress here, and happy holidays! :)

The scale is maybe a little smaller then the falcon but close to that size, thank you for your comments.

    EDIT:Meaning the cockpit is a 2-3 man.

Thats an interesting design. It has a rugged feel to it. My only thought was that the main hull is too rounded. Maybe a little more squared off. Especially in the back. I like the detail though. Put some tubes and stuff snaking around too.

Ok guys, due to popular demand (and the fact that it looks better), I made it less "curvy" and more "boxy" to fit the architectural style, also i added a bit of tubing and a bit more detail. What do you think? Ready for texturing?

I like the design, but could you make the cockpit more detailed, the windows look kind of like a building, make them more like a spaceship would. Just fix that and then texture it :)

I understand that it needs more detail, but what exactly do you mean by "more spaceship like", I know the cockpit needs improvement, but dont know what exactly to do. suggestions?

suggestions? or just "texture the damn thing and let us see it when you're done!" ? :p

EDIT: also some texturing help/advice would be greatly appreciated, i have never textured anything this complex before. (using C4D)

The windows look really boxy, I would make them more curved, you hardly ever see windows one a spaceship that are just flat rectangles of glass, make them curved, and make the out line more interesting then just a rectangle. I don't know about texturing in C4D so I can't help you there...

I disagree with the windows being organic... everyone does organic spaceships, hell I'm guilty of it... but it's a 'space' ship... it could be a flying cube like a borg ship...

take these critiques as nothing more... they should never be allowed to stunt YOUR creative vision of what you're modeling...

boxy windows seem to hold with the boxiness of the overall design... I say keep em that way and it's good work...
    ;)

I agree with Darksteps! I like the look of the ship. To me, it's very remniscent of a landspeeder from ANH....so making the windows more curved might make it start to resemble the landspeeder more....stick with the squared windows!

I think what's really gonna make this ship "shine" is it's mapping...I think the dirtier the better. Other than that, keep up the good work! :)

personally I would take the wings off, and just have those engine type things closer to the hull. Perhaps you can put them in back to break up that smooth rounded surface. The reason i say get rid of the wings is that very few larger ships in star wars have wings as skinny and pronounced as that.

I think that he said this was a fighter, but I agree that the wings are kind of small. Hopefully he will start texturing soon.

I have begun texturing, i have the hull, wings, and topdetail done with a little tweaking left. so give it a day or 2 and i'll post the fully textured model.

Textures! i made image maps and put it against a space background to see how it would look, i wanted to get everyone's opinion here (about the texturing please, modelling is complete) before i make it final.

nice textures, good modelling, i agree with jeffdotson though, a little too boxy for my tastes. I liked the modelling of the first version better, but thats just my opinion. Everything else is great though.
