There is an internal tradition within the Expanded Universe (well, within the Zahnverse anyway), that the clone of an individual adopts a modified form of the host's name. For example, Luuke Skywalker, Joruus C'Boath. Should Boba Fett have been named Jaango Fett?!?

Why stop there? Have all the clone troopers named Jaaango, Jaaaango, Jaaaaango etc. until we've got a million a's! Then we win! For EVAH!

I thought they only did that with Spartii clones. And Jango wanted Boba brought up as a son, so he gave him his own name.

How about we do away with family name altogether? Count how many new offspring have been named after a past mum or dad, and you'll come up with quite a list. The Skywalkers, Solos, Horns, Fels, Tainers---these are just a few examples.

Personally, I'm fed up of seeing repetitive names. There are reasons for it and all, sure; in honour of a past personage.

But how about some new names? Like Zaph or Michael Skywalker instead of Ben Skywalker? [face_thinking]

Wasn't the other cloning naming convention numerical, ie: Dorsk 81, Dorsk 82, etc...

I think the numerical system was only for Khommites...

and Kevin- Dorsk 81 was the Jedi in JAT. Dorsk 82 came to the academy in the Leviathan comics. :-B :p

Gath, to be fair Dorsk 81 and such was from it's own distinct planet. In fact, one of the few planets to still have cloning allowed after the Clone Wars due it being an intrinsic and controlled part of their culture, planet, and survival.

    -P!-

I think that's only for Sparrti clones. Besides, it's a silly idea.

If they did that soon we'd end up with Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaango Fett. And no one wants that.

no boba should remain the same because if you remember correctly all the clones with variational names had accelerated growth and other mods but boba was essentially a test tube baby

I did a little experiment in MS Word. Jango with 1,200,002 a's (1 for Jango, 1 for boba, 1.2 million for the clones) takes up just about 27 pages. Of size 10 font.

So signing forms would be hell.

well... that's why they use serial numbers.... their serial number is a complex mathematical representation of the number of 'A's in their name.

    clone trooper 2357-J-N892 is actually J*ngo with 9346208 A's.

thankfully, they don't have Waaaaasssup humor in the republic army:
Jaaaaaango calls on the comm: Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaango!
    Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaango replies: Jaaaaaangooooo!
    wow.. that was so 1990s

Boba was not a Spaarti clone; he was a Kamino clone.

Boba was special anyway. He was more of a son than a clone. And I doubt spaarti or Kamino made much difference when it came to names. Do you think Thrawn went
    Soontiir Fel
    Soontiiir Fel
    Soontiiiir Fel
    Soontiiiiir Fel?

There's also Maaarek Steele, Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarek Steele, etc.

Is it me, or did someone bring up the idea a while back of Daala being the clone of Dala?

No, he shouldn't, Jango wanted him as a son, so he named him accordingly.

Your question is based on the premise that Lucas bases decisions on his films on what authors do int he EU.

Here's a clue: Lucas doesn't. Nor should he. EU always has to work around the films, never the other way around.

I think he *WAS* called Jaango Fett, on his "birth certificate". Boba was just a code name, like TK-421. :p
