I found the finale and season 2 pretty disappointing and won't be watching season 3. There were too many moments that broke my suspension of disbelief and character motivations and actions were pretty thin and dumb at times, not to mention that some of the set ups did not pay off.

Oh also, I'm not rooting for any of these characters. They're largely all pretty terrible people and do awful things for no justifiable reason and they blame it all on "it", aka the wilderness, a vaguely defined evil power that is supposedly forcing them to do horrible things. It's one thing for these characters to think the boggy man is out to get them when they're starving in the wilderness for months on end but for these characters to still be thinking that "the wilderness" is controlling them 25 years later when they're back in civilization felt ridiculous to me at times. All the problems the characters have in the present timeline are of their own making. Nobody is forcing them to do these things.

I think we're supposed to be hooked by this question of, "are all of these characters crazy or is 'the wilderness' real" but I've never believed for a second that the supernatural stuff was real. Generally speaking nothing that has happened on the show has ever felt like a supernatural power is at play. It's all just in their head and the idea of slogging through two more seasons for these characters to discover this isn't especially interesting.

    Some random thoughts:

What was the point of Javi disappearing,
only to have him killed off later? Lame.

What was the point of Shauna being pregnant? Dramatic tension I guess?

The reveal of what happened to Travis was pretty underwhelming. Plus,
killing off Nat kinda made the whole search for the truth about Travis's death seem all the more pointless.

Walter swooping in and wrapping up the police investigation was beyond dumb and unbelievable and Saracusa going along with Walter's cooked up cover story was equally silly.

Tai basically forgetting about her wife for the second half of the season also very unbelievable, not that I was dying for more of that boring subplot.

And lastly it's beyond ridiculous how much stuff was seemingly explained away to the cops by the finale's end.

I think the point of Shauna being pregnant was to ratchet up her trauma so that she pretty much loses her mind.

I do agree that the season finale was pretty disappointing and there doesn't seem to be anywhere for the story to go. It's almost as though they meant it to be a rushed series finale. All the 2021 plotlines have pretty much been wrapped up, and it's clear at this point that there is no "it" or supernatural force at all (though I half-expected some reveal at the end that provided solid evidence). They were traumatized and hungry, Lottie is schizophrenic, Tai reacts to trauma with some sort of extreme sleepwalking/fugue state, Van had two near-death experiences and she is facing her death as an adult, Shauna turned into a borderline psychopath, Misty always has been a psychopath. In 2021 Jeff's stupid blackmail scheme (why would he do that if he knew exactly what happened to them and how bad it was?) and Tai's fixer poking around just dredged it all up again.

There also doesn't seem to be anywhere for the 1996 plot to go other than them continuing to descend into madness and cannibalism. We already know the why and how, so I don't know what else is there to really show. Coach Scott did the right thing-- the group is insane and they're likely to hunt him down-- but he appears to be doomed.

I totally agree that the season two finale could pretty much serve as an ending to the entire show. I also agree that there isn't anywhere new for the 1996 plot to go. Seems like the entirety of the 1996 plot is going to be essentially rehashing what we've already seen. Something will happen that makes the girls think they have to make a sacrifice to the wilderness and either they'll make the sacrifice and be convinced that they've satisfied the wilderness or they the won't make the sacrifice and something bad will follow which will convince the girls that they should've made the sacrifice. Wash, rinse, repeat until they're rescued.

Also, yeah they'll probably kill the coach and move into his new digs.

Speaking of the coach, what was the point of having him,
almost commit suicide but then not go through with it?
Again, I guess it was to add tension for the sake of adding tension? Stuff like that feels hollow to me. It should add to a character growth or move the plot along or both.

As far as the 2021 plot goes, I guess they could introduce a new cop character or maybe somebody from the FBI who will start investigating Kevyn's death and the events around it and that will threaten to expose the Yellowjackets. So other words a repeat of the cop story from this season.

I don't know...I almost think this should would work better if they fully leaned into the supernatural elements instead of playing this, "are they crazy or is there a ghost" game that they've been playing. Since they don't fully commit to the supernatural stuff it's so much easier to dismiss everything as being in their heads. Yeah there is that weird stick figure symbol that appears in various places but eh, that's not a lot to convince me that there is some supernatural stuff going on. More than anything the stick figure symbol feels A LOT like the writers thought, "lets throw in this weird, creepy thing for the sake of having a weird, creepy thing in the show even though we haven't a clue ourselves what it's supposed to mean!" That's basically the vibe I get with all of the supernatural stuff shown so far. The eyeless person some people have seen, the bleeding walls, the bear walking up to the camp...I don't think the writers have a fleshed out idea about what any of that stuff actually is. My feeling is that they'll make up an explanation after the fact or they simply won't address it all.

Supposedly they planned out seasons 2 and 3 together though. So I'm personally interested to see how 3 plays out.
