They've been at pains to state this is quite different to Alpha Centauri. I'm looking forward to it anyway, have many hours of Civ from 1 onwards under my belt. Also Space Gandhi needs Space Nukes.
I've got 17 hours under my belt and have completed about one and a half games. It's very similar to Civ V but different enough to make it challenging. The tech web especially still leaves me confused. In other Civ games you can use real world knowledge to figure out which techs could be useful. For example, I know that Horseback Riding will give me access to fast units or that gunpowder will be a big upgrade to my military. I'm less sure what something like "Mechatronics" will give me in Beyond Earth.
