ST Silly nitpick that is really bothering me about Maz Kanata's Castle

So, there's this little niggling detail that has really gotten under my skin with TFA, probably silly, and maybe I'm the only one.
In Maz Kanata's castle, and in fact the whole movie, the aliens from the other Star Wars movies are nowhere to be found, except for Chewbacca, Akbar, and Nien Numb. No Rodians, Bith, Twi'leks, nothing that I could see.
Why did they do this? Does this bother anyone else? It made me feel like this move did not take place in the Star Wars Universe.

 

I noticed this as well, but I felt they did a good job of showing new species. If I recall, and I could be way off, but I do believe the majority of the movie takes place in the Outer Rim, so it could be they were just looking to show the different inhabitants that live there. I'm assuming that Episode VIII and IX will feature more of the species we've met from the PT and OT. I wouldn't say it bugged me though, I was just so interested with the new types of species, technology, etc.

 

why is there a giant statue of her there ? it seemed rather an odd thing for an oracle or whatever she is .

 

They spent the whole movie in a sector of space we have never seen before, so it didn't bug me.

 

Shes a pirate queen, they tend to have egos.

 

No security or early warning system and no shielding - stuff you'd expect from a pirate to be alert and prepared goes with their lifestyle, was a dumb scene. Would've been nice if she had some repurposed B1 or b2 battle droids.

 

I actually thought the same thing when I saw TPM for the first time. All the aliens were completely new, except for a couple Twi-leks and maybe a Rodian in the background. I think there was 1 of those 3-eyed dudes, from Malastaire, I guess.

But all the podracers, the WuipiWuipi guy, Watto...all new.

 

Prequels threw in their own aliens and creatures, no doubt about that, and every Star Wars movie has aliens we never see in another movie, but I did find the complete absence of recognizable aliens from either trilogy in TFA to be really weird. Like, humans can freely travel anywhere but unless you are Chewie, Akbar or Numb they put up an invisible fence for all other species? There should have been a few of the more common aliens - Duros, Twi'leks, Rodians and Ithorians especially. Those species get around.

 

She was rumored to be a 1000 year old pirate, and a children's book that got posted online stated that she was Han's mentor.

 

There was also a certain Hutt.

 

I think the alien that peeked over the sand dune to watch BB-8 pass by was a familiar alien but I'm not sure which one. It was only on screen for a second and just the eyes.

 

It would have been nice to see a familiar species, but I thought that Maz's cantina was pretty cool. I liked the music they played too. It was all done really well.

 

Oh I hope we see her in the Han Solo spinoff. That would be interesting.

Does anyone understand why they made her CGI? If you want her to be small then just get a small person with a lot up makeup. I get the whole the with the eyes probably couldn't be accomplished, but honestly I didn't really find them to be the *it* factor about her character.

 

They did, to an extent. Arti Shah (4' ) helped perform the mocap for Maz in some of the scenes when she was standing, walking etc. I think it comes down to the eyes, and I wonder if some of the evolution of the script made them less prominent.

 

Yeah, they could have had a little person in a costume, and had bright green circles over the eyes, and just CGI that area.

 

It's a huge galaxy, they're in a distinct region of space, we can have some variety beyond the same all Rodians and Twi'leks.

 

... Translation... You miss Jar Jar Binks.

 

The new species don't bother me, just space alien background noise. I do wish we got to see more twi'leks, though.
