On a whim after browsing through TV shows and films on Netflix I'd come across this Korean-based reality show that caught my fancy. Normally I'd give reality shows a hard pass; the drama just seems all to scripted to me and I'd rather watch a movie instead, but as I watched the trailer for this show, it seemed intriguing. You might suggest it's borrowed elements from Survivor, where people are staked on a remote island and are tasked with quests where the goal is to essentially be the last one standing. In this show, there are several teams based on the industries they come from. There's a team of firefighters, a team of police, a team of bodyguards, a team of stunt-doubles, and a team of soldiers. Oh, and one more thing, they're all women. Each team gets assigned a shelter on the island (they choose it after an initiation mission) and they have a team flag in place that they must hide somewhere within the shelter. If the shelter's flag is captured by an opposing team, that shelter is taken over and the losing team is gone from the island. Also, each individual player has her own flag on her back. If that flag is captured by someone else, the loser is gone from the island. Obviously it involves a ton of strategy and resolve. Alliances are made between teams, and it's easy to root for the underdogs if you're like me. I'm already on the third episode and I'm enjoying it.

I just watched the last episode of this series. I won't get into spoilers, but I'll say it was somewhat bittersweet. One team, above all others, just seemed like a bunch of cocky bullies throughout the entire ordeal; and I was rooting for the underdogs. Alliances were made, and some were far more important in the results than others. The show left with somewhat of a cliffhanger even after the champions were acknowledged, so we'll see if there's a second season. I'd certainly look forward to watching it if there is.
