Echoed by Sidious to Anakin in the ROTS novel:

"The Sith do not fear the dark side. The Sith have no fear"

If the Sith truly do allow themselves to experiences the "full spectrum" of emotions, is this contradictory?

    Discuss.

I haven't read the ROTS novel yet, is there a reference to the Sith experiencing the 'full spectrum of emotions' in that, cos otherwise I don't know where your assertion comes from. Where does it say they do, it's certainly not in the films.

Palpatine seems to show fear in ROTS.

    Religion contradicting itself. Imagine that.

Really though, the Sith are about fulfillment through rage. Rage in its pure, unadulterated form leaves no room for fear. Fear can be a path to rage, but the Sith see themselves as already at their destination in that sense. No point in lingering on the path.

    Force use isn't a religion. ;)

But yeah, sure, it makes sense for Sith philosophies to be contradictory-after all, they're the ones kidding themselves that absolute control can be gained over everything. Alternately, one could say that the Sith don't fear having fear, and are therefore fearless, although that strikes me as equally ludicrous. :p

Well, I usually like to have a go at the Jedi, so I thought I would switch things up today. Still, the Sith philosophy regarding rage is interesting. In LOE, Dooku seems to think that he erred in the teaching of Grievous by encouraging him to concentrate on hate/rage (this possibly applies to Ventress too, though I can't remember if it was stated). Sidious had apparently "confessed" that he erred in the same way with Maul.

Dooku was a fan of being detached.
