ST Sith Trooper (Red Stormtrooper) Discussion

As I was looking at those red Stormtroopers on the poster, the style of mask and the number of troopers shown got me wondering if these could perhaps be new clone troopers. I remember the Episode II promo posters also showed similar large squads of identically posed troopers. Also, Kylo Ren seemed to prefer the idea of a clone army in The Force Awakens. Now that he is leading the First Order, he could make it happen. Perhaps the First Order was already growing them, and now they are ready?

I read a quote this morning from a user in the Ep 9 theory thread that I like a lot.

I love this idea. I feel like it could only ever come to fruition on a small scale in film, or in a comic book. I also love tying in the prequels more, which I feel like this theory could allow for some of that.
I don't know if a clone theory holds enough water for me personally, it would be a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

 

I would really like it if there was a major story arc in IX involving the stormtroopers. They, including clonetroopers, have been a part of all three trilogies, and it's fitting, IMO, that there is a big story/blow-up about them. It could be clonetroopers in red, under Kylo's direct command, and stormies under Hux's command, and an eruption from within the First Order itself, incited by Finn and his sister. For Finn, I think it's a natural conclusion of his story to incite a stormtrooper rebellion.

 

I'm hoping that they are a clone army, but not one Kylo made since TLJ. I don't like the thought of cloning tech getting to the point where an army can be created any faster than the Kamino Cloners could do it. It's my hope this clone army is part of the new threat from The Beyond, which will give the people in the FO something to redeem themselves with as they have to join with the Resistance to combat it.

 

Maybe the reg stormtroopers are already rising up against the FO and this is what propels Kylo to use a controlled clone army.

 

How about we don’t get another clone army.

 

A long running convention is that the Red Guys personally belong to the Emperor... to Snoke.... so, personal alliegence to Kylo?

A Civil War in the First Order?
Or, they're Kylo's equivalent of Death Troopers.

Or, it's just lighting and no big deal at all.

 

This was my second thought/reaction after: "oh... they are sticking with that look for Rey... Okay; bummer."

It wouldn't surprise me if these troopers in the red armor are, in fact, clones. Whether or not I will enjoy this development is entirely dependent upon the execution, of course. The armor looks really cool, but I'm afraid it would be especially easy for a sharpshooter to track.

This is an interesting idea...

 

After Snoke Praetorians these red troopers just seem like a weaker version, I suppose you can't have black when the KoR already are darker shades of the spectrum.

 

Let's sell some toys.

 

Lots of cool possibilities. None of which we will get.

1. Red Troopers are clones. No, too much like the PT.
2. Red Troopers represent a split in the First Order. No, too much story.
3. Red Troopers come from the Unknown Regions/Beyond. Nah, too strange and new.

4. Red Troopers are "special" stormtroopers, perhaps super loyal to Kylo. Yes, this is easy to explain and sells toys.

Conclusion: the red troopers are just cool looking characters meant to increase toy sales.

Hmm maybe to insure that Kylo had a group of faithful soldiers at his side Kylo ordered some clones that were programmed to only report to him and the KoR? I could see that.

 

Hux has red hair, so they belong to him!

 

I dislike how clones flatten a story, and give it an imitation sci-fi feel. So I hope not.

 

Are they really red or is it a Photoshop and lighting thing? They are after all directly beneath the red light of Kylo's blade. And on closer inspection, is that a Photoshop error? Their midsections are too big, like they were a separate layer that the creator didn't bother to resize.

 

I hear that but it would help explain why they are loyal only to Kylo and the KoR. Shouldn’t all the Stormtroopers be loyal to Kylo? If Kylo doesn’t trust that the average stormtrooper would be loyal to him what would make him believe that the red stormtroopers would be a extra special loyal to him? Answer? They were programmed to be loyal.

 

Well, if the previous two ST films are any indication, then there will be no explanation at all for why the Red Stormtroopers look different. They will just pop up for some battles, get blown to pieces and then you'll have to look into the ancillary materials for an explanation as to who they were and where they came from.

 

These guys will be Kylo's best troops. That's it. They will have 1 line uttered about them. Something like...An entire legion of my best troops awaits them. [mockingly] Oh, I'm afraid the deflector shield will be quite operational when your friends arrive. Cut Scene to show Red Stormtroopers descending onto the Swamp Forest Moon Planet

I just can't see them adding anything deeper.

 

I would be only half surprised if at some point Kylo ordered them to "execute the order 99".
