Slave Leia Halloween Costume

Well this marks the first year that I am making costumes for Halloween. My costume was easy to do (Han Solo - ANH, which I've posted already). My fiancee Liz, who doesn't like Star Wars (yet decided to be Leia so we could dress as a couple for once.

This costume has been very frustrating to create!!! The bikini (WalMart bra) was pretty difficult to put the gold design on. I used a cotton cord stuffer, or whatever Wally World calls it. I sprayed it gold, cut it in multiple 15" sections and inch by inch glued it on to my pencil marks on the bra. The straps we removed and used a strong shiny gold string and laced it through. This was definitely the toughest to do since the rope would barely stay in place.

The skirt part was a bit of a pain...It's crushed velvet, I glued & stitched the two sections to the front & back of the underwear she'll be wearing under it. The gold plates are still being worked on. We used plastic place mats from Wally World and I drew the design on them, cut'em out and sprayed them. I'm gonna make it fancy with that puffy sparkling gold paint. The pony tail is from Three Muse Clothing, who make excellant Leia outfits/accessories....

So...this is my Slave Leia costume I've created for Liz. Obviously it isn't finished yet but, it gives an idea on how far I've come with it after almost quitting the project a hundred times...lol...The second pic shows her holding the front plate up in place....

All I'm going to say is that costume takes a LOT of guts to wear in public...

 

Luckily for me she's only wearing it at a couple parties but...I'm sure next Halloween I'll have to dress up as whatever she wants

 

Dude, you owe her...big time!!! She's not a Star Wars fan and she's willing to go right into wearing the Slave Leia?! Wow.

On a construction note, I'm impressed. When you said you were making it out of a bra and gluing cording on it, I thought it was going to look terrible until I saw the pictures. Sure, you could get a lot more detailed, but for what it is it is very well done.

And I gotta add that she is brave to wear that in public. I have one I made, but I only wear it for my husband.

i always like to hear everyones different ways of making this costume, you never really hear the same thing twice. its a hard costume to figure out

i used puffy paint to embellish the plates for mine too, button covers work great for the round bits on the plates

Which is one of many reasons you'll never see me in that costume.


Nicely done, for a Halloween costume with most materials from Walmart.

Looks great. For your creation method, it especially came out nice. My only critique is that the chain could stand to be a bit thicker...but if she doesn't like SW yet...don't push the issue

Either way, very good job, and even w/out a different chain, you two will look great together. Now get her into the SW universe (show her the Family Guy Blue Harvest episode....that's a good "ice breaker"...just don't start with the Holiday Special).

LOL....ya...you're 'done' there. Maybe you'll get lucky and she'll have the SW bug by then...otherwise, start researching what she may want to do now so you can brace yourself
