Ok, I have been coerced into doing a Slave Leia costume. The bad part is that I love costuming, but I am shy in nature. I know there have to be some ladies on here who have done this costume, and I am wondering if any of you are shy. If so, how did the experience work out?
I am planning on premiering my costume at Dragon-Con...If I do not chicken out, that is....I much prefer hiding out in a helmet...LOL

You might consider adding a cloak or cape if you are shy, that way you can cover up if you feel like it.

I am way too self-conscious to wear a slave leia costume, with or without a cloak. But I've seen some folks wear a nude-color bodysuit underneath the costume, or nude pantyhose. That might help too.

What a great idea about the nude bodysuit. I definitely am going to have to consider all possibilities...

    Karma, you're shy about that?

I guess that surprises me. From pics of you in your Aayla costume and your Femme armor, you look like you have a nice body and great abs. o_O I don't know why you would be shy to show that off. ;)

padawanslave, you definitely would not have wanted to do the costume the way I saw a girl do it at Dragon*Con a couple years back. Except for the skirt parts, which were connected to each other and held onto the hips by a string, her entire costume was air brushed on.

Of course the guys were fascinated with her. I saw a lot of her pics in guy's photo albums after the con.

Let's just say there is a reason I wear costumes with pants that cover the backs of my legs. :)

I've seen the nude bodysuit go both ways- I've seen it work very well, and then I've seen it work not so well.

The one that looked great was sheer (but not very see-through, or else what was the point), and not shiny, and was a good match to the wearer's skin color/tone. The one that didn't look so good looked thick and shiny, like it might have been a spandex bodysuit. It didn't blend with the wearer's skin.

Maybe a dance skin would work? They are sheer and some are many in many shades of "nude"?

    -Karma

PS- I remember the airbrush Leia from D*C, I remember thinking that that was one brave chica and that I was happy she was one who could definatly pull off that particular costume.

I had at one time thought of doing this costume.
But I have seen the kind of attention that you can get just wearing a skin-tight black pleather Mara outfit with no cape. The fan boys hanging and slobbering on you. YUCK!
Then I saw how the Slave Leias can't even walk down the hall. To many pics. Too many yucky guys hanging around, etc. No thanks.

I don't know. If you're shy, I'd think twice about it. This is NOT a costume that you can slip by unnoticed in

But the costume is an awesome costume! My fiancee still wants me to have one. But for private showings only. LOL! [face_mischief]

Kim, thats what my fiance said too - about the icky fan boys drooling all over LOL Snow bunny is the same way. I could never do the slave leia outfit, I hate my thighs and butt too much LOL.

If you're a shy person, slave leia might not be the best choice. You could wear a nicely made cape with it too though (make sure its big enough to wrap around yourself if need be) if you are shy. If you add a hood, wrap the cape closed, put the hood up and you could pass as a handmaiden :)

You know there are many fangirls loving the anakin these days :D And i have to say i like it alot.

But no, i think if you dont feel like doing the costume then just dont do it. Its a cool thing but i dont really need to see it on cons. There are many other guys that take 5000000 pics of every girl in that costume cause they never saw another girl that way :) Still if you like to show what you got to allmost everybody at cons, then you should do it.

Yeah, that kind of thing gets alot of attention, bodysuit or not.

I made my friend a Lara Croft costume a while back (there's a pic on my website) and she wore it to a local comic convention. It was hysterical walking like 10 feet behind her cuz all I heard was "dude, check out the Tomb Raider" or "did you see that chick?" Hilarious! :) Oh, and Ernie Hudson totally checked her out right in front of us. Ernie's awesome.

Hmmmm. I guess I really had not thought out how I would actually be able to walk around and enjoy the con if I were in the costume. I remember what it was like at CIII for the Slave Leias there. If I do it, it will only be for maybe a portion of one day and I will need escorts, so that is what I have been researching today. I can always throw my Tusken on top of it if I get too overwhelmed....

Definitely bring along 501st buddies as escorts!

If I do the Mara as Arica costume, I'm going to be sure to stay around my 6" something Stormie friend, and my 6'3" Vader friend. ;)

It's a daring costume and you need guts to wear it. I have been working on this costume since Christmas, but I will not wear it . I don't like the attention that you will get and the gossiping that will go around, and then I didn't even mentioned my blubbery parts :p .
I made this costume because its just is beautiful with all the swirls on the metal, really fun to do :).
Clever to bring an escort, you will need it I think, maybe even for your own safety.
I really envy the women who had the guts to wear it, you must have a lot of self-confidence and don't mind the things that people say.

I'd never do it, but then I look more like Qui-Gon. :D

If you do make it, then good for you! If you decide not to, then just say you agreed to do "ROTJ Leia" and make yourself a commando outfit.

I've seen plenty of women wear capes, and cloaks over it, and it's fine. :) Friend of ours wore a lovely burgandy jedi cloak over hers, and it looked wonderful and kept her warm.

I think it comes down to: Do you (can you) go onto a public beach with a bikini on?

    If yes, do the costume.

If no, don't. I have a friend that did the costume, and wore a purple velvet cape. Kept the creepers away.
Heck geek boys wouldn't let my girlfriend walk 3 feet without taking a pic of her in an Imperial officers costume.

Guya are gonna take pics. That is a fact. If you decide to do the costume, plese don't be one of those folks that snubbs photos.

I have no problem wearing a bikini. I had not thought about it like that, I guess.

I would not snubb people for wanting photos. We had a hard time navigating at CIII because of our costumes, so that would not be scary.

I guess just the idea of the flesh showing was scary until I realized it would be the same as going to the lake or beach. But I will still want an escort. I think I am going to see if I can find a local bounty hunter to watch over me while I wear it. It will only be for a few hours anyway...do not want to miss too much of the panels..LOL

Check the index for more links on the costume.

Probably the best website would be http://leiasmetalbikini.com/

You might also try the Yahoo group, slave bikini builders.
They've got LOTS of good ideas for various ways to construct the costume.

One recurring question is what to wear under the aprons of the bikini bottom.
I suggest getting hold of the Simplicity pattern no 7231. It's got a variety of women's summer clothes, including a string tie bikini. The bottom can easily be adjusted to fit under the aprons. Overall, it's a simple pattern that lends itself well to modifications.

And I second the suggestions by some to wear a cloak over it. Perhaps a cape made in the same colour as the aprons, with decorative gold swirl designs on it, matching the graceful swirl patterns of the gold parts of the costume? I've got a Slave Leia figure on my bookcase- I dressed her in the little black cloth robe that came with the sith figure accessory kit that was sold alongside the figures for Phantom Menace. It actually looks really cool along with the bikini. And the good thing about a cloak or robe is that if the fanboys get too gross, you can wrap it around yourself for protection.
