I was giving change to a customer, and looked down, and was like, what, thats not what a $1 bill looks like!

Assistant manager gets one of those counterfit pens, and makes a big mark across. I get angry (why cant you just put a little mark in the corner?) It comes out legit

I look at it more closely, and it says Series 1957. 1957? What the heck McFly! It was also blue (which = silver certificate)

I tell one of the guys on break to look up what a 1957 Silver Certificate looks like. It matched.

Who freaking uses money from 1957 as... money?

I mean, the 2 weeks where half of the customers paid in $2 bills was weird enough. And that kid that paid in those really big silver dollars.

This is the first for a silver certificate though.

So... who else has gotten funny money at work?

I tried to pay with Republic Credits for my Episode 3 tickets. But, the kid working the booth was immune to mind tricks.

I'm really surprised that the counterfeit pen works on 1957 money, how do those things work? Paper/linen content?

I have no idea, but I don't trust them.

I think after using them as real pens for a while, we jacked them up, so they would mark regular paper as real. This was a brand new pen though.

But yeah, same paper since 1957? weird...

Isn't money made of some sort of cloth-like paper stuff?

Scottish Bank notes aren't legal tender in Scotland but they are excepted throughout the UK. The only bank note that is leagal tender in Scotland is the English £1 note which is no longer in circulation.

    A silver certificate is legit.
In 1964 money changed, they no longer used silver as a form of payment. Have you ever been sorting through the quarters and heard a strange metallic sound? Most likely if you knew what you were looking for you would have found a silver quarter.

They cost to much to make, just like todays penny cost more to make. However, todays penny is useless. I have read and heard from coin collectors that silver coins and pure copper that make it to the bank are to be removed from circulation and put in the scrap pile. Some banks are removing the pennys from before 1988 because they are pure copper. From there they sell the scrap for more than the value of the monitary coin. Then they earn a profit. Does it really matter about the penny? Not really, the penny is a so over made that they are everywhere. Billions of dollars in pennys, the mint should stop making them altogether and let them fade out of existance.

Besides siver certificates which were blue where were also bills with gold.

So, they can only pay in coin in Scotland?

I always get coinage from other countries. New Zealand, U.K., Fiji, Singapore etc. Sometimes they are in roll coin that comes from Armaguard, and then I lol at the silly people there.

We got a bill from 1950 the other day at work. The safe, which has slots to slide in money and it automatically counts it and will spit it out if it's fake, wouldn't take it. :( But it was real.

Somebody must have been so desperate that they were raiding their money collection (or someone else's) to buy stuff... maybe not that customer, but one of the people who handled it before him, at least.

I would be prepared to bet all the pennies in my house that everyone here has at least fifty cents in pennies hidden about their house.

It wasn't the blueness that threw me off at first. It was the design difference in the (1)s on the corners.
Then I noticed that it was blue, and I thought, oh yeah, blue = silver.
Then I saw that it said "Silver Certificate" :p

We have that kind of safe too. We were going to try and see if that (or the change machine) would take it, but then we woulden't be able to get it back out. And heck, if it was real, I wanted it (and I got it :) )

I got a Canadian quarter as chance once at Jamba Juice. I guess better given to someone that dosn't really care, then to have your boss go "um, yeah, this ain't Vancouver, you're fired"

When people try to pass off pesos as gold dollars at work... thats when we laugh.

We get annoyed when people give us Canadian quarters. Generally we keepit on the counter and give it as change to an unsuspecting person.

I would think that paper money that old in circulation would have been long destroyed. Somebody must've raided their relative's collection.

The only silver certificates I've seen are the ones my parents keep.
