The Director's Edition version for the first time. WTH was that all about? Such a sloppy piece of filmmamking - nice effects though.

I liked how in the "Making of" all the actors and Joss Whedon think it was a great script, but then you cut to the original creators of Alien and they're like, "It sucked, and it killed us."

The original Alien is the only good one.

I pretend that all of the sequels don't exist....

    Mace Windy,

I didnt think that Ressurection was all that bad. Sure, it wasnt the most original piece of filmmaking to come down the pike, but I also think that its bashed unfairly. But hey, that's me.

Alien and Aliens are the best horror/action films.

I heard the problem was with the director. He supposedly had every line in the script delivered exactly opposite to how it was intended.

    -P!-

I was actually watching the director's cut of Aliens last night, what a coincedence. The first two were brilliant films but after that it all went downhill.

What was the deal with the ending of the Director's cut. They get to Earth, and it's like a wasteland?

Havent seen the Director's Cut, but I know that in the theatrical version that they werent too thrilled to go to Earth and they kind of alluded that it had gone to **** (although they never said why or how). Maybe they'd planned on expanding on that if there was going to be a sequel.

I actually liked Aliens 3 the most . . . Just because it's a bad* situation all the way through, I'm thinking.

But I guess I would say Alien was probably the most well-made. Heh.

    EDIT: *bad, BAD! bad situation.

That's true. In the DE, they show the ship they escape in landing on Earth, and it's all desert. Winona Ryder is all, "So that's Earth? I've never been here before." And Sigourney's all like, "I was here once a long time ago."

I'm a fan of Aliens more then the others, there's just something about it that I prefer. And Resurrection isn't half bad either, the underwater effects of the Alien were the standout in that one.

What are some of the differences between the theatrical version and the Director's Cut of Ressurection ? Anything substantiative ?

I know for Aliens, James Cameron prefers and insists that the viewer watch that version of the film since it encompasses his original vision. He had to edit and cut some scenes in order to cut down the running time.

Are these other versions available in the box set or only in the individual DVDs, because Ive been seriously considering picking the quadrilogy up of late.

Alien- Horror. Good movie. The alien is a general menace to the horrified crew. Plot hole:Why would you let a man who had an alien creature on his face roam freely around the ship?

Aliens- Action. Good movie. The marines kicked ass. Great speech about "The Corps." Plot hole: Annoying little girl who ultimitaly causes Ripley and her Boy Toy to be killed.

Alien 3- Horror. Crap movie. An alien roaming free on a prison planet. Plot hole: Who cares? They're con's. Go ahead and kill them.

Alien Resurrection- Action. Crap movie. Psycho-Alien Ripley does it with an Alien Queen several hundred years in the future. Plot hole: Giant Space Baby Alien.

Alien was a great film. Aliens was great as well but was a completely different film than the original. As for Alien 3, at first I was extremely disappointed with the film however upon viewing it again recently I've gained new respect for it. If you just watch the movie for what it is you might actually enjoy it. It has all the atmosphere of an Alien film, you just need to get past the plot choices that they made (Ex killing Newt and Hicks) and accept the reality of the situation. From what I hear, the director's cut is supposed to be 10 times better but I still haven't been able to find it. As for Alien Resurrection - complete garbage.

    1. Aliens: High-octane action thriller that probably inspired every FPS ever created in the 90s. Low on plot, high on action and it looks damn good.
    2. Alien 3: Fincher takes a break from directing Aerosmith videos and gives us a taste of his repertoire. Probably the closest in spirit to the original and the only one to feature actual characters instead of cannon fodder for the beasties.
    3. Alien: It's a novelty slasher in space. It's a very good one, but one nonetheless. Great sets, but overrated as hell. Everyone onboard the ship is an *******. Rubber alien, HAL-wannabe computer and Ripley being attacked in her undies don't help.
    4. Alien: Resurrection: Watching this is like reading a book on Victorian genital mutilation. French surrealism horribly inappropriate; sexual overtones taken WAY too far. Aborted alien fetuses, alien/human hybrid and lesbian robots are just too much. Whedon hated it.

Good question. I agree with Parker: "If he's contaminated, why don't we just freeze him til we get back to earth?"

Aliens- Action. Good movie. The marines kicked ass. Great speech about "The Corps." Plot hole: Annoying little girl who ultimitaly causes Ripley and her Boy Toy to be killed.

No, the plot hole would be...why the hell do the Aliens in this film have a weird head? Instead of having the slick domes like the aliens in the rest of the movies do, they have weird ridges in thier heads.

Alien 3- Horror. Crap movie. An alien roaming free on a prison planet. Plot hole: Who cares? They're con's. Go ahead and kill them.

Nope..it was decent...and we all thought that the series was ended with Ripley dying.

The big plot hole in this was: where did those two stinkin face huggers come from?
One got Ripley, the other got the dog.

But how did they get on the ship?

Alien Resurrection- Action. Crap movie. Psycho-Alien Ripley does it with an Alien Queen several hundred years in the future. Plot hole: Giant Space Baby Alien.

    CRAPORAMA!

    1. It had Wynona Rider in it.

    2. Cloned Ripley?

    3. Human-Alien hybrid?

Burke allegedly had them planted on the ship I thought. Or perhaps the Queen Alien planted them....who knows.

    How did he manage that?

The first drop ship crashed after an alien attacked Spunkmeyer and Pilot Lady.

The second drop ship was still aboard Sulaco, and Bishop had to send a beacon to it and remote pilot it back to the rest of them.

Hello! Brand spanking new poster here, so please be gentle with me. ;)

I think "Resurrection" was pretty good myself, although not on par with "Alien" or "Aliens". It drives me nuts that they gave the alien-hybird eyes though. I know it's supposed to signify that it's half-human and half-Alien, but it just took away from the terror that the Aliens themselves bore. I mean, come on! The critters had no eyes! Ya couldn't look the predator in the eye! I don't know about the rest of you, but that would scare the bejeebers out of me. ;)

I really liked Alien 3. The actors who played the inmates were excellent.

The differences in the Alien:R DE, and the Alien:R TE are the opening credits (some guy in the spacecraft squishes a bug), and the closing credits - in the DE they actually land on Earth instead of talking about it.

I have the Alien film box set, too. It's great. I heard it was discontinued.
