So, Carmen -- as most brides-to-be do -- has a wedding gift registry. I have decided to buy her a modest gift off said registry in an effort for her to speed things up with her fiancé on updating the search engine on JDate.

So, members of the JCC, what shall I get her?

I believe I have narrowed it to two choices:

    1) There's a salt shaker, which is described thusly: "In this geometric bone china pattern, repeating rectangles - one nestled in the other - make their way around the rim of each piece. Likewise, Murray Hill is named after a residential enclave that's nestled in Manhattan just south of Grand Central Terminal." So that has the bonus of having a NYC connection as well as providing Carmen and her future husband a lifetime of higher blood pressure, small payback for the JC Communications forum.

    2) There's a salad plate, which has the same description as above really since it's the same family of glassware. So, again, the NYC connection but this one will provide Carmen and her husband a lifetime of regularity via roughage. Also, it has the added benefit of possibly freaking Dani out everytime she's over at Carmen's for dinner and salad is served ("Is THAT the dp4m plate? I can't eat off of that thing...") although she has shown willingness (via third-party information) of accepting "euphoric libations" that I have purchased, so this may be an overstated benefit.

So, members of the JCC, what say you?

    SALT SHAKER OR SALAD PLATE?

Go with the salad plate. A $32 salt shaker is madness.

You don't need salad to live.

Ordinarily, I am a huge sucker and buy people the KitchenAid mixer -- since it's my firm belief that there's no kitchen that can't be improved by one unless one is already there -- but that's just too much money for an updated search engine on JDate...

You don't win friends with salad.

If I send you an actual invite, will you buy us the mixer? We have some left over, and I REALLY want that mixer.

On behalf of dp, let me say, "yes, if you invite me to your wedding I will buy you a mixer."

In fact, dp can come as my date. We'll go halfsies.

Yeah, beach weekend for me (and family friends in town and out at the beach), so unlikely.

But the mixers are super-awesome, no? :)

Burn! Mixers are awesome, though. If we get any money as presents, we'll probably get it with that.

Go with the mixer ... it's practical and IMHO newlyweds need practical more than fancy.

More like JK tried to give me a wedding present, but fracked it up. My fiance isn't letting me read the book before the wedding, but he'll get his, because now I'll have to read it on the wedding night!

Yeah, I've made several jokes about carrying a book-uet down the aisle. But the cover is orange and her wedding colors are red.
