    Hi.

Before you bite my head off I searched the forum and found nothing and I searched gogle and found nothing.

I have the pinnacle studio 8 deluxe package with capture card. I am happy with it so far except for capturing video. Once I have captured it, i have to encode it using studio 8 so that other programs such aspremiere an read and use it. This takes a long time even for short clips. So I was wondering if there was a way i can alter the software to allow me to capture with a different codec or if there is some other software that i can use with my card to capture. I have already tried premier but it doesnt work; I think it is because I only have version 5.1.

Any help would be great, Thanks.

I have 2 versions Pinnacle Studio (not 8),they came with capture cards.I know one of them at least lets you capture as MPEG2,so i'd assume 8 does as well. You are probably capturing as an MPEG2,you'll need to change your capture settings.
    Or
    Capture your footage in premiere.
    Hope that helps :)

Edit:Upgrade Premiere, though you might want to hang on till Premiere Pro ($199 for upgrade)is released.

I've tried capturing it in Premiere but it wont even recognize my card. I dont know what format it is capturing in, All i do know is that i havetried to change the settings but there are no other options that i can choose. Like i said before i cant even open the footage in anything but my studio 8. Is there a plugin I can download?

    I have a similar problem!

I also have Studio 8, but my capturing card is from a package (Studio DC 10 plus + card)
so, Now I wanted to compose two shots I captured by my PINNACLE CARD. And ALTHOUGH I can handle the card with an other program (magix video deluxe) and ALTHOUGH I can SEE my scenes being played in a window WITHIN the Magix´program, I can not drag and drop it into my timeline, within the magix video deluxe!!! And the people at the helping hotline only told me, that I need a newer version of Magix Video deluxe because the old one didn´t work with XP.... but i cannot belive this! (it DID work with Windows 98) so, what can I do now? Buy a new version? my budget isn´t that high...

When i first got my capture card i was capturing in Pnnacle Studio DV ,then exporting from Pinnacle and importing into Premiere, and i had trouble with it.My problem was i didn't realise i didn't need to export from Pinnacle, just had to search my harddrive for the captured .avi.Took me a while(and a lot of wasted hard drive space) to get it right.
Have you tried capturing with Movie Maker?
Try updating your capture card drivers.
Get in touch with Pinnacles tech support.
That probably wasn't much help but at least i tried. :)

Same problem here. I use a Pinnacle DC30 capture card, Studio 7, and MediaStudioPro 6.5. While MSP recognizes video coming through the card and will play it, for some reason it won't capture. However, capturing with Studio 7 and then opening the .avi in MSP isn't a problem. It's when I need to export the file to tape that I get all kinds of obnoxious errors and quality issues.

Alright, well i downloaded the update to the studio 8 software and driver. Premiere will recognize the card but only when i capture from my camera through firewire. I also still have to re encode it before i can actually open it in premiere but i figured out that tsunami mpeg encoder will work faster than studio 8 at re-encoding. I am gonna play with the settings and try again in premiere. I can capture as mpeg with studio 8 now but only with firewire. How can i get premiere to recognize my card so i can capture composite? If no one knows i'm just gonna have to use studio for that and re encode with tsunami.

I got my first capture card from studio DV and have had no problems with capturing AVIs and then taking that file into premiere. It was mentioned before to make sure you know where it is storing the AVIs on the hard drive or it will be a little searching to find them. Using this card, I can also capture in premiere 5.0 and 6.5, but I cannot export to my Sony DV camera model # dcr-trv120 through premiere so I just take the finished products back into studio DV.

Granted my computer needs an upgrade from the pentium 3 450 that I bought 4 years ago. My question is would this slower processor by today's standards cause my footage to seem like it goes into a slight slow motion whenever I do a pan or a tilt where the entire image is moving?

Otherwise I have had no problems with this.

I know where my footage is being stored, it is just being captured with a codec unrecognizeable by premiere. Like i said above i can capture in premiere through firewire only but premiere still doesnt recognize it until i reencode it. I think the capture card's driver may have a special codec built in that only lets you capture with that particular codec. I really don't mind re encoding except for the fact that the quality has degraded after i have finished a clip. I think i will email pinnacle.

AHH. This is really frustrating. I can see my reference lightsaber blade in my origional footage but when i re-encode it so i can edit it the blade seems to dissapear half the time. Does anybody know of some software that can re encode the footage without making it loose it's quality?

    Please, this is really Annoying!

    Thanks.
