    Yo, folks...

Like a lot of you, I'm already very fond of the General Grievous character. I'm also already enjoying the fanfic I've found on him, but so far it's all action-adventure...what I'm really looking forward to is the really juicy character stuff! In aid of that, maybe to even sort of spark some of you along, what follows is some background I incidently collected on the character while checking through all the new ROTS books and such out in the stores right now. None of it's the kind of thing that'll spoil anyone for the upcoming movie. It's just material I thought some of you might find interesting or even useful. References used include the two movie novelizations, the graphic novel version of the movie, various movie scrap and storybooks, 'The Visual Dictionary', Grievous's origin story in the graphic novel 'Visionaries', and the comics series 'General Grievous' (still ongoing). I didn't include anything from the Clone Wars animated series...don't want to spoil anyone for watching that, either!

    ALL ABOUT GENERAL GRIEVOUS
    (THE GOOD FANNISH STUFF)

General Grievous was once a Kalee or Kaleesh, from the planet Kalee. Don?t ask me to describe what a Kalee looks like. Even the comics story about his transformation into a cyborg was extraordinarily coy about revealing his former appearance, and every Kalee character drawn was either berobed, bemasked, or covered in bandages. They?re basically bipedal, humanoid-formed aliens with some reptilian characteristics, I guess?dark reddish, scaly? skin, clawed hands? Culturally barbaric as a society, with a strong hint of Mayan about them, but otherwise as smart and technologically adept as any other folk in the Star Wars universe.

Grievous, a warlord by profession, first rose to fame during a bloody war with Kalee?s planetary neighbours, the insectoid Huk. I?m not sure what the war was about but suspect that resources were at the heart of it?I?ve found references describing Huk as a resource-rich planet, nothing for planet Kalee. Thanks in large part to Grievous?s winning ways, the Huk were eventually backed into appealing to the Republic for help, and the Republic chose to side with the Huk. Jedi and Republic militia were dispatched to forcibly shut down the war and severe sanctions were imposed on Kalee. The sanctions, combined with the deprivations of the long war, devastated Kalee?s populace and thousands began to starve.

At this point, Grievous?s background begins to vary according to which source you reference. One version jumps directly to the accident that almost kills him, another has San Hill, that repulsive little weasel from the Intergalactic Banking Clan, approaching the leaders of Kalee and proposing that his organization will finance the bankrupt planet and see to it that its people are fed in exchange for Grievous?s services as military leader for the IBC?s own extensive private army?in short, they want him to become the chief enforcer for their collection agency. This, Grievous agrees to, with shame. He detests being beholden to aliens and playing their heavy, but is willing to put aside his pride for the sake of his people.

Either way, whether during the final stages of the Kalee/Huk war, or during this period in service to the IBC, Grievous?s talents begin to interest a certain suave Sith Lord, one Count Dooku, who eyes him as a potential leader for the Separatists? growing droid armies. Dooku knows that Grievous, as is, is not the sort to be talked into the job, so arranges for the alien general to have a little ?shuttle accident??

Grievous is horribly maimed during the crash and what is left of him regains consciousness in a bacta tank on planet Geonosis, attended by a seemingly concerned San Hill, who feeds him a line about a Banking Clan frigate luckily picking up the General?s emergency beacon. He is also informed that the IBC just so happens to be on the eve of financing a great Geonosian biotech experiment that could restore many of Grievous?s physical abilities, IF he afterwards?and perhaps again?is willing to le

I think we may already have a Grevious discussion thread, though I'm not sure. In any case, you'll want to mark in the title of this thread that it contains possible spoilers.

    Thank you. :)

Dana. Whoa! That was fast! Actually, I tried hard to write this up so it contained no movie spoilers whatsoever. If there are any, could you tell me?, and I'll just edit those parts out.

To some people, Grevious himself is a spoiler. :p

I'm not totally spoiled myself, so I wouldn't really know. That's why I said for possible spoilers.

I'm a total grievous addict, and I'm glad to finally know why he hates Jedi. In fact, a friend told me that when he nearly died during that accident and was remade as a cyborg, the sith told him it was the Jedi who did it... that would have been a neat explanation about why he hates jedi...

in fact I'm writting a fanfiction about him (in french, because I suck at writting in english), but I'm giving a bit more personality based on the fact he might have some Sifo Dyas blood in him, which means he could bear some of the Jedi master's personality. I imagined what would happen if Sifo dyas had a padawan woman and that General Grievous meets face to face with his "former apprentice", and suddenly realises something bothers him about killing that Jedi...

anyway, i'm looking for Grievous fanfiction, could you tell me where to find some?

Amazing. Great job with this. One problem though is that in Clone Wars Chapter 25, as Grievous takes Palpatine away, Mace Windu enters the scene and uses the force to crush in his chest, therefore making him unable to breathe as well and cough. Thats the only thing that I saw wrong with your post. Like I said, great job.
