I remember that a while back some conspiracy nuts said that the 'Star Wars' trilogy was a templar/masonic legend and that Yoda was, rather than a derivation of several "sage" motifs in legend, almost exactly based on a little reptilian imp called "Toda" or something. This "Toda" - or whatever - was mentioned again in a "science of Starw Wars" doc. Any ideas or does anyone know what this "main inspiration" was?

If it is mentioned anywhere, it'd probably be in "The Philosphy of Star Wars." I never got around to finishing the book, though, so I have no idea. I have never heard of this particular reference/allusion at all, so I'm very skeptical as to the validity of it.

Sounds like an urban legend to me. I'll call up my good friend George Lucas and ask him though.

Yoda was based on what George Lucas thought Kermit The Frog would look like in 800 years.

I'm sure the designers had impish like characters in mind for Yoda's appearance, but imps are demon-type creatures which Yoda certainly is not.
Yoda's name has meaning in two ancient languages, Hebrew and Sandskrit(SP) which mean 'warrior' and 'wise one' respectively. I don't recall the spelling...yoddha or something.

Yoda looks alot like the little old chinese man who comes in almost every week to buy plants at the nursery where i work.
Except for the green skin and ears that is...

I think the Kermit idea was better.
