    well?

lol @ journey playing during that last scene, but that was pretty intense. my mom was freaking out and then the screen goes black and she thought she sat on the remote or something. hilarious. but somehow i knew they were going to leave us hanging like that.

oh, and phil finally getting popped, and the car with the two little kids in the back seat slowly rolling over his head. damn. that was pretty messed up, but everyone cheered a little bit.

From my post in the Amphitheater:

    What the...?

They sure left it up in the air, didn't they?

Does he live or die? Crap, I dunno...

Was the fade-to-black silence his death after being whacked, or was it just nothing, dinner with the family?

    Dammit!

I don't know about the choice of the very ending. The rest of the episode was great.

I would have preferred more of a definite resolution, but David Chase has said before he doesn't believe in all questions getting answered. He's always been annoyed by people wanting to know what happened to the Russian, for example. I guess he wanted to leave it all open to interpretation.

My theory at the moment, I think maybe Tony is dead. I don't know though.

that's pretty much the reason i was prepared for a really open ending like this.

also, there have been rumors of a sopranos movie for years. they definitely left it open for that possibility.

Basically it seems like it was the same ending they had last season with them all around the Christmas tree. Nine episodes to tell a story that didn't need to be told. Disappointing to say the least.

It's hard to say, but the symbolism was there that Tony does indeed get whacked.

    "You don't see it coming."

A little thing borrowed from The Godfather, where the suspicious guy goes into the bathroom.... Plus the two suspicious guys coming into the place.

Paulie seemed suspicious, as he didn't want to take the job Tony offered. He seemed a bit nervous about the situation, and had this 'look' about him, like he was distant and nervous.

Then again, my first instinct was that he survives and the stuff occurring peripherally was just giving a glimpse of the suspicious paranoia that one must have when in hiding.

    //sigh

Just so you all know, you don't have to put everything in the highlight to read mode in a thread asking your reactions to something you HAVE TO HAVE SEEN to have gotten a reaction. So if anybody opens this thread up and screams they've been spoiled, they deserved it because they're morons. ;)

I thought the episode was alright. Especially Phil's death. Classic. I also thought the scene where Tony was offering his son a career in the porno industry over the military was hilarious.

The ending sure did have me bad mouthing my cable connection for a minute though. [face_laugh]

the only way to give the show complete closure would have been to kill the whole soprano family. for all we know, that's what happened. but i'm kind of glad we don't know.

I thought the Paulie hating the cat stuff was hilarious. Especially when he was about to hit it with a broom and then Tony walked in so he pretended to be sweeping.

That's the way I read it. Seeing as how the show has basically always been seen through Tony's eyes, I think the "fade to black" was him being killed.

Though, they obviously left themselves an out, if they ever wanted to make a film.

I too, thought my cable had gone out, until the credits started rolling. :p

    It's very ambiguous.

Did the guy sitting at the counter look like the hardware store guy that got screwed over a couple of seasons back?

Am I spoiled if on the one hand, I read this entire thread, and on the other, I've never seen even part of an episode of Sopranos before in my life?

My reaction is now that the series is over I can safely say I watched about five seconds in total of the series during its run.

You guys are missing out! Sopranos is easily one of the greatest TV shows ever produced, in my opinion. Top notch writing, acting, everything.

I'm just about finished watching the third season- only three episodes left. It's my first time through the series and I'm loving it.

I spoiled myself silly on what the final episode is about and I have to say that I love the idea. Of course, I'll say for sure when I see the episode but I really, really like the idea that he died at the end and never heard it coming. I kind of hope they never continue the story and that this will be it.

I just re-watched the very end several times on my DVR.

I still get the feeling from my first impression, that he just looks up to see Meadow walking in and life goes on... The bell of the door being her coming in. The leadup to that was a glimpse of the paranoia that entails him having to look over his shoulder all the time.

He goes on with life, facing the possible indictments.

To add to what I immediately posted just above:

Tony simply goes on with life. As the song said: "It goes on and on..."

We, as the audience, are the ones that get whacked.

We just simply don't get to see their lives go on.....our journey into their world ends there.

I don't know man, the more I think about it, the more I think he's dead, and "didn't hear it coming."

But you know what, the more I think about it, the more fond I become of the finale. We don't really know what the hell happens. Everybody has their theories. It's ambiguous. Who knows? I like it.

#1. We have never, NEVER, seen the show through Tony's eyes. We have always been spectators. Why start now?

#2. If I read a book that just ended mid sentence I'd burn it.

#3. The open ended ending is another way of saying "I have no idea what I'm doing anymore".

#4. It can't be over. Not like this. No way.

#5. HBO is getting cancelled tommorrow. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in this reaction either. Now that my 2 favorite shows of all time have concluded, I see no other reason to have HBO. I'll continue to buy the shows I like (Entourage, The Wire) on dvd. 99% of the time I've seen all the movies they show about a year before they debut on HBO, the ones I haven't I don't mind missing anyways.

#6. This is depressing. I expected to be down after the conclusion, but damn if I don't feel worse than I did after seeing Episode 3. At least GL gave us closure w/ the Prequel plotlines, at least the ones that needed to be tied up. David Chase left uis hanging, plain and simple, and to me, that's just RUDE.

I TOTALLY AGREE. WE (THE AUDIENCE) WERE WACKED IN A WAY. WE DIDN'T HEAR IT COMING. EVERYONE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE THIS BIG BLOODBATH AND CHASE PULLED THE WOOL OVER OUR EYES ONCE AGAIN.

AS FOR TONY BEING WACKED, TO ME IT MAKES NO SENSE. I KNOW THE WHOLE "WHEN IT HAPPENS YOU DON'T HEAR IT COMING THING" WORKS FOR THAT THEORY, BUT I JUST DON'T SEE IT. ALL THE BEEF WITH NY WAS SQUASHED AND NO ONE REALLY HAD A REASON TO WACK TONY LET ALONE HIS FAMILY (LIKE SOME PEOPLE HAVE SAID). NOW U KNOW HOW IT FEELS TO LIVE LIKE TONY AND IT GOES ON...

I thought it was brilliant. It's left wide open, almost mockingly, and I love it. I'll take it over being spoonfed an airtight ending any day. I'm sure people who take issue with it now will come to love it over time. It's really a fantastic ending to an incredible show.

Edit: I'm on the audience being offed side as well, though I don't think any theory really holds more ground than another.

    I agree.

I thought 90% that life goes on we just don't get to see it and 10% it happens so fast you never even hear it as Tony get's shot and dies instantly.

    Phil's death was hilarious!

The cat and Pauley were also hilarious. Love the broom part when he's going to hit the cat but Tony walks in so he pretends to be sweeping up a little.

Great ending. Who knows maybe down the road people may change their minds and we might see them again?

I can't for the life of me remember who Tony was having the conversation with(I think it may have been Bobby, but it may also have been Paulie), but they had a conversation, earlier this season, about getting hit, and it was mentioned that you never "hear it coming", and that you just "fade to black"(or something to that affect), so that may have been foreshadowing for the ending. \

Personally, I think Tony's dead, it's just a question of which of the suspicious customers did it, and why, and whether his family fell victim as well.

I think he was talking to Bobby in the boat about it when they were at the lake house.

then Bobby gets lit up at the hobby shop after that. :(

How bout Janice's joke about getting thin to find a new husband? wow!
