is there somebody here who can either: tell me how to get sound effects out of star wars galaxies or extract sounds (blaster shots and blaster bolt impacts) out of star wars battlefront and send them to me? i'm trying to build a sound collection, and those games have sounds i can't get anywhere else.
Go into a file folder and pull them out. That probally wont work because a n00b just gave you this advice but if it messes up your computer then it did its job.
i imagine that can be done with battlefront (which i don't have), but it can't be done with galaxies.
Have you looked and seen what the file type extension is? If it is wav, mp3 or something similar, you can play them. But if it was that you are either being lazy or don't know how to browse your directories. If it is something else, you are out of luck.
they're not even in individual files, so i doubt i can get anything out of it. that problem probably wouldn't exist with battlefront though.
I can say with absolute certainty that your computer will understand the filetypes, or else you'd hear no sound while playing the game. The Battlefront sound files look to be wrapped up within the .lvl files, so you'll need a .lvl extractor to open them up. And even then there's no guarantee the files will be in a universal format (mp3, wav, ogg etc). There's a command line lvl extractor available. You can probably get it at lucasfiles.com.
I think in Galaxies it's in .tre files. They can be looked into somehow, because people post stuff that isn't really in the game yet on forums all the time. don't ask me how exactly.
i think i've learned the name of a tre extractor, i'll give that a try. edit: not found. dammit. still not much i can do about battlefront. i think the blaster bolt impacts in that game are the prequel-style lightsabre clashes that are impossible to find without ripping directly from the movies, which comes with music and ambient noise.
