Could anyone please give me the list of species that aren't allowed by LucasFilm to be Jedi?
Speculation as to why these species can't become Jedi is welcome as well. Thanks.

There was a whole thread about this once, but I can't seem to find it now...

Wookiees, for one. Because George said so.

    Gamo's too.

I suspect the Liveaction series...but who knows. Alot of the species are the ones that dont SEEM to make sense anyway. So it would seem unlikely that GL would put them ALL in the live action series....so why the need for suck a long list? Maybe he just doesnt want them to be Jedi.

I say that Tofs can never be Jedi as long as they continue to wear those stupid hats.

And I somehow doubt that a Zeltron would have much success as Jedi either.

    Not to mention Hutts.

Are we to forget Lowie or is he a special case to the Wookie-Jedi rule?

Seems kind of discriminatory on George's part to exclude Wookies.

There already was a Hutt jedi. Leia, I think, killed him.

And I don't know if Wookie's should count. They CAN become Jedi, they just aren't allowed to anymore...

Ja, he was named Beldorian... the killing was an event that was noteworthy enough to be mentioned on the backcover of the New Essential Chronology, I might add.

Zeltrons -can- become Jedi (at least according to "Ultimate Alien Anthology" from WotC), but yes, they often have difficulty doing so.

Stenax (from the old Marvel series and SW Gamer #1) couldn't be Jedi, either. Though a Stenax Sith would be -AWESOME-! ;) (I actually hypothesize that the Stenax god "Vol" was actually the last/only force-user among the Stenax).

I'm pretty sure that's what Commander5052 meant by "give me the list of species that aren't allowed by LucasFilm to be Jedi"... ;)

Tale up arms everyone! We have to fight discrimination against fictional alien species by their creators!

Moving right along I don't think we've seen any noghri and ewok. If you add that in with the wookies, it seems that perhaps aliens with a distinct tribal/clan like culture possibly exempt themselves from being Jedi. The noghri and wookie are too loyal to their own society to join the Jedi perhaps. It could be an In-universe explanation

According to Wookieepedia, Niebur Boton was a Zeltron Jedi.

or it could be that Ewoks have their own Force tradition - what if Logray's shaman magic was actually a result of his Force-attunement. Most Ewoks that have a connection to the Force might tend to believe that it was a connection to the magic that their belief system on Endor.

Being a Jedi requires two things:
    1. the ability to have Force-sensitive people.
    2. being connected to the larger galactic society in order to be discovered by the Jedi, and being able to go with them (and possibly deal with jedi prejudice)

perhaps after Tyvokka, the Wookiees started experiencing greater predation from slavers, and couldn't afford to give up any Wookiee children to the Jedi because there were so few children at all... or that the Jedi voluntarily decided to leave Wookiee children alone so as to not appear as bad as child-stealing slavers. after the fall of the empire, wookiee populations stabilized, and with the formation of a jedi order that had no memory of past jedi actions, they could re-establish the order with volunteers, including Lowbacca.

so... for the other species on the no-jedi list.. is it that the species doesn't have much force-sensitivity traditions, or that the species distrusts the jedi, and so won't allow their members to be jedi, or that the jedi don't trust the species (if 90% of jedi of a certain species historically end up going to the dark side, the jedi just might not want to train them and keep opening up that can of worms)

Is that a jedi??? I thought it was like Tarfang's long lost cousin or something....

I don't know if it stated somewhere that the little guy was Jedi, but jumping around with a lightsaber doesn't exactly make you one. I would be curious to read about this little guy's adventures in the Jedi Temple and such.

Perhaps we will see another Zeltron Jedi (Delilah Blue) so we can have a next generation Luke and Mara type thing. ;)

I would have to say that letting long lived species such as wookies be Jedi seems like a bad idea. I think Yoda set an early standard as the "Wise Old Jedi" being very strong in the force. I know before midichlorians came out I thought that Yoda had to be the strongest because he was the oldest and had the most time to train. Makes sense. It's hard to take an average Jedi, say he gets 1000 years to train and tell me that he won't be extraordinary.

I would think Toydarians would be a stretch. They seem, if not immune, then highly resistant to the Force.

Then again, so are the Hutts, so maybe I'm just out on a limb all alone.... ;)

Let me ask, did Lucas say he didn't want any Wookiee Jedi, or did he say he didn't want any Wookiee Jedi in the Prequel films. That's the story I remember hearing, that one of the concept artists wanted to put one in and he declined. I don't recall hearing "never, ever again."

Can there be Nagai Jedi? Himromi Jedi even?

I wonder about Selonians as they're virtually all clones of each other except for the breeders.

There was a Nagai padawan in the KOTOR comic even though for some reason he was colored purple and Darth Nihil from Legacy is a Nagai.

There's a male Selonian Jedi, Zonder, in the Evasive Action webcomic.
