There isn't enough news present at the moment to discuss the film specifically. At best people could discuss the possibilities of the film, but in my experience mention of the franchise continuing invariably sparks discussion of the failings of the rest of the series (most often SM3 though not exclusive to).

My guess would be that the topic would be minimal until more about the film is released.

Not looking forward to it. I think they have exhausted what they could do with the character in Raimi's franchise.

I check it and its sister site Superherohype.com daily and trust me there isn't enough news right now to be discussion worthy. The last tidbit of worthy info was that Raimi and Maguire are both returning and that they are in the process of writing the script. I have been following as close as I can on the JCC in this thread.

...I am not disputing the release date. I am stating there is no news or information to discuss, thus that may be a big reason why people aren't discussing it. Another is that so many people were soured by SM3 they are apathetic to further installments of the franchise.

I get what you are saying. I kinda was sored about the third movie too.

EDIT: lets just talk about Ideas for the 4th film. Plus I heard Carnage might be the Villian of the next movie. I just wish Venom was in it so he can have his all time rival like it was in the comics.

Please no more symbiotes. They totally messed up Venom. Carnage would be even worse, especially since they have to keep in PG-13 it would result in a Carnage who doesn't even kill.

I know the studio gave them permission with the first Spider-Man movie to do 6 films.

They should do Lizard and Kraven in this one, #4. The Hunter and the Hunted.

#5 they could do Mysterio and Chameleon, or maybe the Kingpin and Smythe.

In number 6, they should end it with the Insidious Six, with Norman Osborn as the mastermind behind them.

But I am kind of tired out after Spider-Man 3. It was a good concept (except for Sand-Man being the murderer of Uncle Ben, never really liked him anyways, just a thug) but they ruined it for me.

They should do a surprise and kill off Mary-Jane. Especially since their marriage has now been "erased" from time in the Marvel universe.

Anyways, yeah, not really enthusiastic about this. Toby McGuire does not GET Spider-Man. He doesn't seem to have a great sense of humor, or be a scientific genius, in his portrayal of Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

I think the problem isn't that Maguire doesn't get Spidey, its that he is incapable or delivering snappy, witty dialogue thats required. There are a couple times you can see the writers trying but it just falls flat on its ear. To be frank it sucks but not unexpected given that comedy isn't easy and the ability to portray that kind of wit and humour is really difficult. That said they could have gotten someone better at delivering those lines, but this late in the game its probably better to stick with an actor that Raimi has a working relationship with and an understanding. Thats why I was a fan of SM2 where much of the humour became incidental rather than line delivery...not ideal but a way around the limitations of Maguire's range.

As for the villain its unlikely to be Venom itself since a) most of the suit was destroyed b) they couldn't do it right in the first place c) he is getting his own film.

Carnage is a possibility since Connor's still has a piece of the suit, but that is more of fan's dream.

Personally I would like to see more of the criminal underworld explored. The supervillain's are great and all, but there are so many other challenges that Spidey could face other than the endless rogues gallery. My biggest concern is that the rogues gallery starts to get really lame after a while and the majority of characters, despite looking cool or having and interesting concept, don't really have the presence or gravitas to carry a whole movie themselves.

Exactly. This is another big complaint I have with the Spider-Man series... Spider-Man has never sent any villain to jail! Green Goblin died, Doc Ock died, Venom died, and he let Sand-Man go... Spider-Man isn't supposed to be a complete vigilante! Let him put some important villains in jail.

And with your main point with that, it's not like an overpowered supervillain with overdone special effects is needed to have a good villain. Look at the new Batman series. While they did have "supervillains" in them, the role of organized crime was just as important if not more important!

Also, please no more blatant references to Spider-Man=U.S.A., save that for Captain America.

There actually is something small to discuss: just released promotional posters:

Nothing terribly surprising about it though ;)

I think we all knew that a fourth film is going to happen. I've known that since long ago. Spiderfan was merely stating that there's not much info about the production out to discuss upon just yet. But sure, it will come.

As for myself; I'm looking forward to it. I didn't hate any of the previous ones. There were some things I hoped would be different with number 3, but I still enjoyed it.
And really hoping Elfman will be back for the score. C. young is great, but I missed the Elfman-feel to number 3.

Once they do a 4th film, there will be a 5 and 6 coming out too. I wonder if spider-man and Wolvirine are going to be in the Avengers film?

I sincerely doubt there will be any more than four films of the Spider-Man franchise. It would be like the Friday 13th-saga; overkill in every aspect.

Elfman won't be back. His experience working on Spider-Man 2 has turned him off of ever working with Sam Raimi again.

There will most likely be several more Spider-Man features. Laura Ziskin, the producer of the series, has stated that she wants to continue making them. IIRC they are aiming for at least seven films. They will probably continue until the franchise is no longer profitible.

As for Wolverine and Spider-Man in any Marvel studio films (ie The Avengers) it won't happen unless the studio's renegotiate their deals and neither Fox nor Sony want to give up their cash cow franchises. I really wish people would stop asking this question, I don't know how many times I have to clarify it.

I remember reading that interview. Always had the hopes to they making up and tying the knot together again, though.

And seven films? Seriously? Wow. I mean, I personally don't have anything specific against it, I'd watch them all, and probably sit there with a giant grin all over my face while eatching. But, yeah. Oh well, the bigger chance for me to be an extra in one :p

sorry I just thought I would be a cool Idea. It would not be Avengers without Spider-Man and Wolverine.

Sony claims the teaser poster is a fake:

I thought it was odd they were releasing a poster this early for the film, particularly since the script isn't finished yet.

The Avengers existed for a long time before Wolverine or Spider-Man were regular members of the team (Spidey was an on again off again reservist for a long time, but only in the last few years was he a full time member).

They announced their intention to do 6 films shortly after Spider-Man 1 or 2 came out, I forget which. I haven't heard the 7 figure before.

But, yeah, so long as they remain profitable, they'll kepe making them. I'd expect a recasting and a new director before it's over though- I doubt they'll get Dunst, Tobey and Raimi together 2-3 more times. And Tobey will outgrow the role eventualy.

On the brightside, the likely longevity of the series will permit them to perhaps explore some of the more recent villains, instead of sticking to the same sinister six characters that aren't as relevant anymore and have gotten plenty of play in animated shows already.

I recall Ziskin or Arad saying 7, but I could be wrong. Regardless they intend to continue the franchise and why not...its proving to be profitable for the studio.
