Now before you all go off half cocked about Area 51 stuff, read the article, you may be pleasantly surprised!

I'm not sure if this info really needed to be spoiler marked, but I did it just in case anyone is really going to be anal retentive about absolutely no spoilers, including locations.

I hope to God they need extras out there, because I will drive to New Mexico in a heart beat!

New Mexico could double for Morocco and Area 51.

True enough. At this point I take the word of multiple reliable movie websites. If it was one website it'd be different.

Two more Indiana Jones 4 filming locations
    08/06/07, 3:57pm EST

We have info on what looks like two more Indiana Jones 4 filming locations. Deming in New Mexico. And the Mexican port of Veracruz.
Las Cruces Sun-News reported earlier this week that the Indy 4 production crew will film some scenes near Deming, New Mexico. An area nearby Deming will be transformed into a Morocco setting.
Crew members of the fourth Indiana Jones film have been working in Deming for weeks. A building at the former air strip in Deming has been painted blue, with a USAF insignia and the words "Home Of The Fighter Pilot" painted on an outside wall. In addition, WWII Air Force vehicles are parked nearby.

New Mexico reportedly is the first filming location, but no filming dates have been announced. And it is also unclear if any of the lead stars of the film will be on location in Deming.

This is not the first time that Deming, New Mexico, has been hinted as possible filming location for Indiana Jones 4.

Spanish news agency Terra.es has reported that they may also be filming for the fourth Indy film in the Mexican port of Veracruz in October.

Film commissioner Próspero Rebolledo, the head official for attracting movie business to the state of Veracruz de Ignacio de la Llave, indicated in an interview that negotiations with the Indiana Jones 4 producers are underway, that they are scouting and hiring locations in Veracruz and that shooting is set for October.

    Hooray for Demingwood

When mega-movie producers Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are planning another blockbuster Indiana Jones movie, money is no object.

They can do or create whatever they want.

So where do they look when they want a perfect scene for the fourth part of the now-26-year-old Raiders of the Lost Ark series?

    Deming, New Mexico, of course.

The next Indy Jones movie, with the title "Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods," will include scenes shot in Deming. Scenes featuring a U.S. Air Force base, supposedly in Morocco, will be shot in Deming. Work has already been done to re-paint and re-cast an existing building for the part. A May 2008 release is planned for the film. Apparently, however, Harrison Ford will not be coming to Deming.

Nevertheless, the event is another step toward the state's (or at least Gov. Bill Richardson's) hoped-for transformation of New Mexico into Hollywood East.

Speaking of transforming, it's less than a month away from the July 3 opening of the movie "Transformers."

"Transformers" is another multi-million-dollar production, this one a Dreamworks film directed by Michael Bay. And like City of the Gods, part of it was filmed in southern New Mexico.

Many of the Transformers scenes were shot near Alamogordo at Holloman Air Force Base and White Sands National Monument.

Actor Shia LeBeouf is in both movies.

Does this mean southern New Mexico is becoming the Mecca for filming summer blockbusters?

    Probably not.

But it is nice for some of the movie magic to be happening in our neighborhood. Typically, when movies come to New Mexico they hit closer to I-40, like the Val Kilmer movie "Have Dreams, Will Travel," which will be released later this year, and was filmed in Albuquerque, Los Lunas and Belen. Moviemaking always provides some buzz for the host cities, and typically gives a little economic booster shot as well.

With luck, the filmmakers will have positive experiences here, and make some return trips.

In the meantime, let's enjoy it while it lasts.

And, come on, Harrison, make a trip out this way. We'll treat you to an amazing green chile dinner.

Interesting that Harrison may not be involved.

Is it possible that the plot revolves around Aztec or Mayan archaeology?

VERACRUZ UPDATE: FILMING STARTS 2ND WEEK OF JULY

Film commissioner Próspero Rebolledo of the state of Veracruz said in an interview in Coatzacoalcos that Indiana Jones 4 starts filming in Veracruz as of the second week of July. We have reason to believe that Mr Rebolledo refers to Veracruz the state and not just the state capital and port; see lower part of this posting.

Mr. Rebolledo was present at the 5th Rally Malayerba, Make a Short Film in 24 Hours event and also said that the production Fire Bay starring Robert Forster and Kuno Becker helmed by Randall Fried will start shooting in the state the same week. 10 more projects for yet unnamed US producers have been scouted for the last six months. We hope they'll say "Right on, go!" because we have our foot on the accellerator. This reflects the support given the cinema industry by the Governor (Mr. Fidel Herrera), to the benefit of not just Veracruz but the whole country" Mr. Rebolledo added.

We have looked up a bit more on the state of Veracruz and the two following sites look so promising we're considering to make a meal out of our personal fedora should we miss:

Cempoala ("Place of the Twenty Waters", picture top left). The ancient Totonac site is situated just 5 mi / 8 kms from Veracruz on the Río Actopán (NB! Not the same as Veracruz the state capital!)

El Tajín ("Place of Thunder") in the north of the state (picture lower left) is another site of interest (magnificent!!) and should be within reach for the cast and crew if they have a place booked for them in the nearby city of Papantla.
