In a part of my up-coming fic, a lot of the story takes place on the Executor. The big problem is that I don?t really know how a (Super) Star Destroyer looks like inside aside from the bridge.

I?ve checked all my local book shops and libraries but I can?t find the Star Wars Incredible Cross Sections anywhere, so I wonder if anyone online could tell me:

What does a Star Destroyer interior look like?
How many decks? How many sections? What are the sections?
How about crew-quarters? How does the crew live?

And so on. Anything anyone can tell me will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

SSDs have a large transport system inside. And it resembles the Death Star interior, just not so grandios. The crew quarters are small, but increase as their rank does. The lower ranks would have shared quarters, probably three or four to a room. Pilots would have a bit larger, probably two to a room. refreshers would be communal for most of the crew, besides flag officers, which is the Captain and his immediate staff. The Captain would probably have two sets of quarters. A smaller set near the bridge, and another set somewhere else for when guests are onboard.

And that's what I think they would be like. Though I may be wrong.

I tend to treat ISD and SSDs like US carriers.

    -- Pilots Bunk 2 to 4 to a room, sometimes 6
-- Enlisted crew bunk in massive units that can house several dozen people at once, each crewman limited to a small "coffin" locker under his bunk with a small upright locker nearby
-- Commissioned officers below Commander share quarters, commanders and above private quarters.
-- Flag officers (Capt and Admirals) have private offices and quarters. One could argue that Vader's chamber on the Execuetor was his quarters.
-- Hangers are massive caverns that are only devided up by large fire-doors that can isolate the bat into sections in case of fire/emergency
-- Fuel and munitions are stored deep within the hull of the ship for protection during combat. Dedicated elevators and transfer systems are used to transfer it to the fighters.
-- Mess ares would again be massive communal spaces. With the commissioned offers having a private mess area away from the cew. Capt/Admiral would probably have a small mess close to their quarters all their own.
-- A flight-operation bridge seperate from the main bridge. And with a SD a bridge for directing ground operations. A CIC bridge for coorrdinating (sp) all operations.
-- A "Store" where the crew can pickup personal supplies, snacks, general knick-knacks. A SD may or may not have one of these.
-- Fighter squadrons would have ready-rooms for each squadron or maybe two or three squadrons at a time depending on the size of the ship.

Design wise, yeah I'd say go with Death Star chic'. The Empire probably standardizes a lot for the sake of effeciency, so there would be a lot of visual similarity in the interiors of their space navy.

You want a good look inside a US carrier? Check out Tom Clancy's nonfiction book "Carrier" It's a pretty good dry stat book for a carrier, onboard procedures, and general "this is how it is". And there is a great documentary called "Carrier: Fortress/City Of Steel" that gives you more of human side to things. The basically follow a carrier crew around on a training cruise and film how life really is aboard ship.

Thanks very much both of you. Those were really exhaustive answers. Great, just what I needed.

And, Dev_Binks, that large transport system you mentioned, is that like a monorail-system like all the Bond-villians have or is it more like the turbolift-system that the Star Trek ships have, with the ability to go both up/down and sideways? Or something else?

The Executor and her siblings have several large rail cars grouped around the central keel (described on the Lusankya in Enemy Lines II: Rebel Stand). I believe Darksaber describes Callista using this or a similar rail car to move from the aft TIE hangars to the bridge area. The between-deck turbolifts seem to be a separate system, as seen on the Death Star.

Would make sense if they were seperate systems; they are warshps, you wouldn't want your crew transportation system all knocked out with a lucky shot. I think, from my point of view, there should be a least 4 rail car systems: The main keel line and three satellite systems to move larger numbers of crew faster and more effeciently

I remember a Mod for I think the first Dark Forces game ... which shows the interieur of a Star Destroyer ...

I never played it, but a friend of mine told me about it. I don't know whether it still exists somewhere ...

The first Dark Forces game indeed has one of the last levels inside a Star Destroyer ... quite menacing, I thought, when I played it years ago. ;)
