The title is basically what we know at this point in terms of content. The folks behind the "Secrets of..." series are releasing this on October 1, 2024. Hardcover, 208 pages. No cover art as yet. Artist Iris Compiet also did the artwork for The Dark Crystal Bestiary: The Definitive Guide to the Creatures of Thra and her work there is stunning, so I'm expecting good stuff here. That title also suggests that a "Vol. 2 - Sentient Species" may be in the offing, which is good.
ReverseVader: YYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! The wildlife of star wars has always been one of my favorite parts, and the old Wildlife of Star Wars a Field Guide is one of my all time favorite sourcebooks. I doubt this will flush out environments and ecosystems as much as that one did, but I am still up for more stuff about star wars creatures. I hope they have a nice selection of creatures from outside the movies as well, especially the shows.
Yes this is on my Christmas list. What else you wanna know With limited page limit of this book I would imagine it’s mainly going to just be the on screen creatures with little else beyond maybe the Disney push book series for additional content. *le sigh*. Still will look forward to it anyway
I didn't see a thread for this and think it's a pretty recent edition to Amazon's catalog, but apologies if there's already a thread for this Star Wars Bestiary v1 Here's the Amazon link for the Labyrinth Bestiary to get an idea of what the art and style would be
Oh, Mythosaur eh? Very cool - oh, and mentions of creatures from comics and novels as well, that is good. Even when I was hoping for non-movie material, I was still mostly expecting show stuff, plus maybe some of the critters from the Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor. Just covering the movie stuff would be a big task so this sounds like it will be jam packed. And a mention of the environments as well as the individual creatures, excellent. I don't want to get my hopes too high, but this does sound like it could be a second coming of the Star Wars Wildlife Field guide, and do a lot to flesh out the ecosystems of various planets.
Ooh, I love that this has a similar hand-sketched art style to Terryl Whitlatch's The Wildlife of Star Wars. That's one of the best sourcebooks ever, so if this is sort of a version of that updated for canon I will be very very happy. It doesn't look like it will do the illustrated ecosystem parts but there definitely seems to be plenty of new info on these animals!
Yeah. I confess I am a little disappointed it just does general area types rather than individual worlds and is mostly movie creatures with only a few editions, but the art looks amazing and it is always great to get more info the creatures. Spoiler The bit about wayfinders being based on purrgil brains is especially interesting. Also, while there are less non-movie creatures than I was hoping, there are some great choices here. I am particularly surprised and impressed that the wellegrin, a creature from young jedi adventures, made it in. I amused that Nevarro Reptavians still don't have a proper name. Wonder if they will give an in-universe reason for that, given the in-universe framing of the text.
So awesome. Nice new style and beautiful art work. Really has me looking forward to it. Especially if all creatures have a two page spread and paragraphs of fleshing them out.
Looks brilliant. I love the art. Looking forward to this. Definitely want more in this style, particularly for sentient species.
First Look Inside The Star Wars Bestiary, Volume 1: Creatures of the Galaxy Release date looks to have been pushed out to 11/5.
I have the book in front of me, it arrived today! Great book, I love it! Really channels the old Terryl Whitlatch book.
