This thread is to NOT discuss "Lucas's writing flaws or mistakes", this is about character flaws. No Star Wars character is perfect, but that doesn't mean we hate them. The flaws I point out doesn't mean I don't want them to be in Star wars. If none of the characters had flaws there would be no Star wars.

Some of the character flaws may be due to bad writing, but it's not always the case. Character flaws can make a story seem more real and interesting. The flaws I point out doesn't mean I hate the character. This is just for fun. I am going to add a humorous tone too it. Don't take it all to serious.

Feel free to add you're own. You can be serious or humorous.

AND again this isn't about Lucas's writing, Its about the characters. This isn't meant to flame any character.

    Padme Amidala

1.Talks about suffering in the galaxy and doesn't free Shmi while she has an expensive wardrobe

    2. Marries Anakin pretty quick and especially after he confesses to killing woman and children (btw I don't hate the pairing)

    3. Spends time alone with a man( Clovis in TCW) in a situation set up for romance when she is married.

    4. Leaves Jar Jar in charge while she away. Sure Jar Jar has a kind heart, but he is easy manipulated and isn't the brightest lightsaber in the box.

    5. Wanting to run away with Anakin after all he's done in ROTS. Running away from problems doesn't solve them.

Sentence: Work in the Star wars equivalent of a Wal-mart sweatshop

    Princess Leia
    1. Calls Chewbacca a walking carpet.

    2. Doesn't give him a medal. Is she speciesist against wookies?

    3.Rude to her rescuers.

    4. Selfish, She doesn't want Han to leave when he needs to pay off Jabba. If he had left it could have made things easier for him. He could have left during his 3 years with the rebellion.

    Sentence: Group therapy.

    Master Yoda
    1.Forbids attachment

2.Forbids emotion (Yoda you're not all a bunch of droids and btw during order 66 I am pretty sure I saw sadness in you're face.

    3. Yoda is a hypocrite. "A Jedi uses the force for knowledge and defense only never for attack" So what about all those Jedi lead attacks?

    4. Yoda is a quitter. After losing to Palpatine once, he gives up while other Jedi are killed in the purge. Where was the great yoda when the surviving Jedi of order 66 needed him?

    5. Makes decisions about Padme's kids. Yoda who died and put you in charge? Ok so Padme died, but that doesn't make you in charge.

    6. Forbids questions, don't question the great yoda! Luke wants to ask a question and he says there is no why. (What is this Yoda, a cult?! Luke don't drink any Kool-Aid yoda gives you. Yoda has the markings of a cult leader)

    7. Disobeying Yoda leads to the Dark side. Yoda's way or the high way.

Sentence: A shelfed puppet in Andy's room from Toy Story.

    Anakin Skywalker
(Not going into the Vader stuff)

    1. Invites strangers to home. (okay so this is an iffy area, but still what if Padme and Qui-gon had been physco killers)

    2. Whines and complains ( Do you think a Senator wants to hear your problems)

    3. Blames others for his issues.

    4. Arrogant.

    5. Selfish

Sentence: Crowned teenage drama queen and given a pacifier.

That's all for now, feel free to add your own character flaws.

    Anakin

Lives in clandestine marriage; shuns clandestine therapy.

    Anakin and Padme

-Fails to utilize effective birth control during war-time.

    Padme

-Neglects to see licensed OB-GYN during pregnancy, putting unborn children at risk for the sake of secrecy.

    Obi-Wan Kenobi

-Offers death-stick dealer easy mental palliative; fails to slowly nurture him out of his problematic lifestyle.
-Witnesses massive Coruscant air-strip tower collapse, considers human fallout part and parcel of "another happy landing."
-Watches "brother's" immolation and just-plain walks away.
-Schemes to mold innocent, slightly obnoxious farmboy into patricidal hitman.
-Watches aforementioned hitman trainee leave for Cloud City, refrains from preparing him for the mother-of-all-mind-screws.

    Luke Skywalker

-Shrugs off deaths of devoted adopted family for the sake of high adventure and possible nookie with princess.
-Allows twin sister to be sold into sexual slavery as part of rescue plan.
-Abandons gangsters to 1000-year spanning living hell in Sarlaac Pit.
-Hears abusive father threaten twin sister's life, allows Buddhist/Christian ideals to interfere with necessary decapitation.

    Leia

-Watches homeworld destroyed and proceeds to trade wisecracks with rescuers. Possible sociopath.
-Initial antipathy to Lando may or may not be racially motivated.
-Obviously doing cocaine in her third adventure.

    And these are the heroes!!!!

Great thoughts! And funny as well. [face_laugh]

seriously though I have to point out that OT Yoda is clearly a result of the PT. He feels that there is no redemption from the dark side because he saw both Dooku and Anakin be consumed by it. Also, he gave up after fighting Palpatine because he fell like 50 feet! Think about it the Yoda v Palpatine fight probably only took a few minutes, reinforcements were on the way and Yoda really had little chance of stopping Palps by trying to climb his way back up the Senate.

Jedi: They are hypocrites. They lie that emotion and attachment are evil and not existing. They say deception is of Sith yet employ it whenever its convenient and NO ONE ever gets called on it.

    Yoda and Anakin: Extreme arrogance.

Leia: Willing to cause death of innocence to save very few and her own skin. She lied.

    Leia and Luke: Kiss.

Luke and Anakin: Way too quick to get caught up in action without thinking first

    Anakin: abusive

Leia wasn't trying to "save her own skin" - she knew she'd been sentenced to death. She was trying to save the 2 billion person population of Alderaan. Is that "very few"?

Han Solo initially believes that he is an island (apart from Chewie) and that with his blaster and a few credits he can essentially live a 'solo' life, and this presents him as shallow and materialistic. He learns otherwise in the course of the OT.

    1. Yes because it leads to jealously, fear of losing, it takes your focus out from your duties....

    2. Emotions are not forbidden... You only have to control them in order to reach peace and balance....

    3. Yoda led a COUNTER-attack, in a goal to protect the innocents....

    4. He should have taken a journey to thousands of planets rescuing one by one... That's it??? No way... He went to the Temple and warned ALL Jedi at once... Then he went against the main source of problems: Sidious... It is NOT quitting....

    5. An excellent decision, btw... The kids were never found for 20 years.... Organa and Kenobi were free to disagree if they wanted... If the babies were to have been returned to their family on Naboo, it would take days until Palpatine kill or take BOTH....

    6. "What is Yoda"??? He is THE MASTER!!!! And Yoda did answer lots of questions.... Luke kept asking more questions and he wasn't really digesting the answers given.... So what Luke really needed was clearing his mind...

    7. Not to the dark side, but indeed to the high way... One too old and reckless padawan should follow his lead, of course...

BTW... Please, point us some flaws about Tarkin (or Peter Cushing if you like)... [face_devil]

You may be getting too radical....
Attachment to a love or to power should be bad for the Jedi (Anakin and Palpatine were really taken by those attachments)....

The rules about those subjects must be taken as a constant warning...
And "let it go" if you get attached... This little tip helps the rule-breakers to realign.... Anakin had ignored this tip completely....

So what should they do? Should they drop their sabers and give a positive smile to those oppressive droids?

If he had joined the rebels, Vader and Palpatine would ALWAYS find the rebel base, because the Light Side is not clouded...

The boy killing his own father in order to save the galaxy from a planet-eraser empire is really that bad?

My answer was given and "please", it is because of the Emperor.... They would be easily found.... Padme's relatives would be killed when the kids were taken or killed by the Empire...

That was not the case... Luke didn't follow him blindly (he went to Bespin) and Yoda was right indeed (Luke wasn't prepared, their friends weren't helped by Luke... It was quite the opposite)....

It was R2 alone the responsible for saving Leia and Lando...

Lando had started the rebellion, then he had started the chaos on Cloud City...
Leia and Chewie killed all the stormtroopers on their way and R2 had opened the main door and had turned on the hyperdrive...

Luke was so unprepared that he requested the Falcon to RETURN to the place it had already escaped to rescue the arm-less frightened padawan....
Yoda was really right when he said "You will be (afraid)"...

    Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious

    1. Smug, prone to bragging.

    2. Laughs at the misfortunes of others, like the entire galaxy.

    3. Probably has clammy hands. Just my personal hunch.

    4. Guilty of total 'jerk-face' when tasing.

    5. Invites fellow socialites to the Mon Calamari opera only to dismiss them from their balcony seats rather rudely.

    6. Clearly taunts others when hogging the TV remote the way he does with Luke's lightsaber. ("You want this...don't you?")

    7. Is a politician.

Sentence: Swift kick to the nuts.

    I forgot one...

Sorry, I haven't read what you said before replying....
Now I did... I see your point now... ^:)^

In order for Yoda NOT being an hypocrite, he should have taught his reckless student using something like:
A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack, except if you are counter attacking.

    Would it be better?

"Biological ones"? Again? Now you are the one who haven't read what I said!! [face_waiting]

Anyway, I would complement my previous answers by saying:
1 - Even better than hide 2 kids whose the Emperor doesn't know they were ever born would be hide them at different places, so if any of them were to have been found it wouldn't represent a complete end of hope...
2 - "Aunt and uncle" were living at the "farthest planet from a bright center to the universe"... Its someplace well distant from the Emperor... And Vader wouldn't want to go back there where his mother sleeps (it represents his failure on protecting her)... The Lars farm is very safe to hide him... Owen should have some real love for Shmi as a mother (she must have been a good stepmother, I guess)... So he would accept the baby without questions....

Yes, but not as a Skywalker!!!

"The population, of the nearly 70 million systems that the Empire was responsible for, amounted to more than 100 quadrillion beings."
    [from http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_galaxy]

I can't imagine the amount of data the media would produce by second!
    And think about those news:

    - "The Jedi have tried to kill the Supreme Chanceler"
    - "The First Galactic Empire and its thunderous applauses"
    - "The war has ended"
    - "The Separatists are misteriously vanished"

    VESUS

    - "Bail Organa has adopted a baby girl"

Well, I know one Jedi Master who doesn't agree with your ideas of how to deal with a reckless padawan....

    Yes! That's why I said:

The rules about those subjects must be taken as a constant warning...
And "let it go" if you get attached... This little tip helps the rule-breakers to realign.... Anakin had ignored this tip completely....

Well - unless you're a droid by default - and putting aside Droids that have avoided getting a library memory database wipe out - so putting aside IG-88 or a psychopathic Terminator like droid ... it seems surely it is the concept of EGO EGO EGO ... given in reality today and now we are ruled and fueled not just by emotions but also EGO and its really how much of our 'pride' that we can take in at times ... or the concept of Resilience ... given then again if we didn't have emotions and EGO we might as well be Robots and Star Wars might as well be just Droids scrapping and 'parting' ways with one another ... and living beings like Robots and Terminator ... incapable of emotion (or it would take a while ...) and with not goals and such ... but then again the idea of being a Robot haha ... no more jealousy, not so much anger, no more embarrassment, no more stupidity at times ...
