Does anyone else feel that some character names or planet names are not so good?

Take Gasgano - the podracer. Switch the g out of the middle to before the o and it reads "Gas an' go" Like a car. Gas And Go!

Ronto - we all saw how Lucas came up with that.

What about the wookie planet - unpronouncable at first reading.

A lot of names with apostrophes and y's and many consanants, especially in EU.

The movies, usually, the more exposure/lines the character has, the easier it is to spell/say. The more obscure characters start to have the weird ones - the more obscure the worse the name.

How about the Outlander club names. Great example of all my points.

So I propose to the group - what other names are just plain silly, lame, or entirely unclever and why do you think the writers of EU need to use such weird names, where the movies use relatively easier names to read and say?

    Okay, discuss....

I have to say that the worst one I've ever heard was the Chevin in Jabba's palace who looks like an elephant.

    His name?

    Ephant Mon.

    No. Creativity. Whatsoever. :p

Borsk Fey'lya. Easy to pronounce, but his first name sounds like a Russian food. :p

    Brrbrlpp.

It was made to be unspeakable in Basic, even the authors have said so. They're called the Cold Ones.

I think Borsk Fey'la sounds cool, and if only Ephant Mon had dreadlocks, he sounds like he is a "Rasta Mon".

the only name in star wars you hear everyday is Luke and Ben.

those are two off the top of my head because they are the most relevant.

you don't hear Han, Leia or Qui Gonn everyday.

My favorite has got to be Jedi Council member Coleman Trebor...

Wasn't there someone involved in the production of AOTC named Robert Coleman?

Wonder how long it took them to come up with that... ;)

well, i applaud the writer's for the movie for making names we can pronounce like Ephant Mon and Mon Calamari.

i read EU and there is stuff like

    J'T'B'Han or whatever

and then the type of trees on Kashyyyk. pure evil rrrkkrrrkkrrr. Those are just guesses, not the real deal.

in episode three i predict something like

    Watr Botl

you know, GL is thirsty. AH HA, ANOTHER NAME, ANOTHER CG CHARACTER

    Exactly.

I think the movies do us a service with pronouncable names, and the EU books try to sound all Sci-Fi with the apostrophies and the consonant crowding.

Anyone else have a problem with all this?
And how do you pronounce ysalamari?

    Madine out

    "Is-a-la-maar-ee."

    EDIT: Or, I suppose, "Ees-a-la-maar-ee."

I always thought it was Kah-SHEEK.

    ...and Yuh-saal-eh-marr-ee.

EDIT: For Kashyyk and Ysalimari, respectively, of course.

The only sources (at least that I know of) that actually pronounce Kashyyyk, which would be the Galactic Battlegrounds game and the Clone Wars game, say it "Cash-ick". ;)

I say it that way as well. :)

I hope nobody hits me for this, but I think Count Dooku sounds pretty dumb. Lord Tyranus is better, but not by much.

    Yeah. I think so too.

Dooku sounds like some sort of children's toy.

Maybe if they pronounced it Dough-ku...

    I thought Kashyyyk had 3 syllables--KASH-ee-ick.

And yes, "Dooku" is a silly name. On the DVD Lucas says "Dough-ku." I don't know the reason for the pronunciation difference.

same reason that half the time leia is pronounced leah.

I agree that Dooku is a terrible name.

Lucas never pronounces his own creations right. He always pronounces Naboo different than it is said in the movies.

There's an alternate pronunciation for Naboo?
