Star Wars Comic Book Collecting Questions

I've heard that these Star Wars comic books exist, but I've never been able to confirm it.

Does anyone out there own, or has anyone actually seen any of the following:

- Classic Star Wars #1 with variant cover by American Entertainment

- Dark Empire #1-6 Platinum Edition foil covers

 

- Dark Empire #1-6 Platinum Edition foil covers

I'm pretty sure that I saw QVC selling them a few years back, and I'm pretty sure that they were Dark Empire I comics. I'll try to find some kind of conformation about that though.

 

Actually I made a mistake. I meant to ask about the Dark Empire II Platinum Edition #1-6.

I have also seen the platinum version of Dark Empire I.

 

Ah, nevermind. I haven't seen any platinum DE II comics, but I would like to know if there were any produced too.

 

I've seen them listed in a comic book price guide, but I have never been able to confirm the existence of DEII Platinum or the variant cover version of CSW #1.

I've looked on ebay and never seen either. I'd just like some fan out there to confirm they exist because I have my doubts.

 

I've never even heard of the DEII Platinum edition

 

Neither had I, but I saw it listed in a price guide and got curious.

 

Check a different printing of that price guide and see if it's still there it might have been a mistake

 

Actually I saw it in Wizard, which is probably the most commonly used monthly price guide for comics. I have not checked a recent issue, but it was in several consecutive issues.

It was at $6 per issue. I've found mistakes in Wizard before. I don't think they are that thoroughm, so I'm not willing to rule out the possibility that they are wrong.

 

You could write Dark Horse, SW.com, or Steven Sansweet.

I don't think the platinum editions were produced by Dark Horse. I think that some other firm took originals and put the foil on top of the original cover and created the certificates - so Dark Horse may not know or care. Steve Sansweet is probably the best source, but he probably does not answer his email.

You did give me an idea though. Sansweet wrote the Tomart Guide. Could someone check the 2nd edition of the Tomart Guide for me and let me know what they find?

I knew that there is a varient cover of Star wars #0 from American Entertainment but I never heard of one for "Classic Star Wars" #1. I could be wrong, but I really don't think it exists. I also knew that there were gold covers for DE1 and 2 as well as for the original TOTJ series. I'm also aware of a plantinum for the original DE, and even though I have seen a platinum DE2 listed in Wizard, I think that they made a mistake. There are a lot of screw-ups in that mag. Again, I could be wrong, but I have kept a close tab on the comics ever since the Marvel stuff.

 

While we are on the subject, I?ve included a list of all the variants that I have. In addition to these I am aware of the DE platinum covers, and theDE2 gold covers. If anyone has seen or owns any others please let me know. I do not count any that are listed in Wizard unless someone has actually seen them because Wizard makes a lot of mistakes when it comes to Star Wars comics.

I also think there is a Dynamic Forces Gold edition of "Anakin". I've seen a picture of it.

 

As for CSW #1 American Entertainment variant, I've actually seen it listed somewhere for sale, but missed out. There was no picture though, so I could never really verify it existed.

 

I'm not positive, but I think there might also be an "Obi-Wan" Holofoil version as well.

 

Yeah. Those Episode 1 one-shots are a little sketchy as far as what exists and what doesn't

 

I remember something about the DE2 comic series from QVC, because I think I bought 2 sets of them. If I remember correctly, they are not platinum but gold embossed on the SW name.

 

I think I've seen a all the EP1 Charaters Holofoil covers.
