Hello everyone! I know I have been keeping to myself alot over the past year or so, but I'm still around and am planning to be more active with the RMFF in the coming months. I would like to take this oppertunity to discuss a project I have been planning for the WOTR Halloween event. I have recently begun working on a Star Wars themed miniature golf course. It is still in the very early stages at this point, but I am planning to dedicate as much time as possible to assure the project is completed in time for the event. I have spoken to the folks at the museaum and they are very excited about the idea. They have also informed me that we will have as much space as we need, so we can let our creative minds go nuts! I am still working on collecting supplies, here are a few things that i still need: - putters (have managed to find a few @ thrift stores around town for about $2 average). - clean pine boards, preferably 1"x 2", 4", 6", 8" or 12" boards, any length. - craft furr (white &/or brown), think Wampa or Bantha. - turf grass (have also considered using short office style carpet). Home depot carries the turf for a little less than $.50 sq ft, but ideally we may need several hundred feet & it will add up fast. If anyone can find it cheaper, or possibly somone who would like to donate some, it may allow us to go much further with the project. The pieces we would need are not necissarily large, so even scrap pieces may work. I will be working on this over the weekend & I will try to get some pictures up as soon as possible.
Big sale at JoAnn's next weekend... And the one in Aurora had some of the nastiest looking white fur that would be perfect for Wampa fur! How much do you think you'll need? Also, I will look in the garage to see if we still have a bunch of that indoor/outdoor carpet. It's foam backed and would be PERFECT for this.
Awsome! I was planning on constructing the wampa out of wood to make it rigid & functional then covering it with the fur. I was thinking it would be like 3' tall so 2-3 sq yards of fur would be my best guess never having really done anything like this before. I think I can adjust the plan around whatever you can come up with though. I'm sure the carpet you describe will work great & we can use all that we can get. The more playing field whe have the more holse we may actually be able to make. I am happy to announce too that the Home Depot has agreed to donate 100 sq ft of green turf to the cause. I will be picking that up this afternoon. Also, an update on the progress so far. I have nearly completed the 1st hole "Escape the Sarlac Pit" and have begun working on the 2nd. I will be posting pics very soon. I have also managed to procure about 20 putters, which DH is now working on turning into "Saber Putters".
We can always use more putters if anyone has them to donate, however please understand that we intend to modify them to make them into "Saber Putters". This will entail removing the rubber grip, painting & possibly shortening the shaft to make them easier for the little Ewoks to handle. I mainly want to be sure that no one is under the assumption that they will be returned once the event is over.
I have a good start on a couple of the holes now & I have some good ideas for the next couple. I could deffinatly use a hand, especially in painting & detailing. The Sarlac pit could use a Skiff & mabe a mural on the backboard & I think u came up with a great idea for how to create the Mustifar Volcano so I think we'll have plenty to keep us busy. We are going out of town for a few days next week, but I was thinking mabe we could all get togather next Sunday if anyone is interested. Here are some pics of the 1st hole "Escape the Sarlacc Pit".
Looking good, so they come apart into how many pieces? I have some powder paint you mix w/ water like in grade school. I'm sure that will work great on the paper machete volcano and some other props, not sure if it would work on wood. What color of paint do you think you will need?
This one breaks apart into 3 pieces (the 1st green w/ the hill, the pit & the back green). I was thinking the body of this one could be brown or tan, then we can paint the pit and both back walls with some more intricate detail if time allows. I think I'm gonna hit up Home Depot again to see if they can spare some of there mismatch paint, there's always some tan/brown in there. I have tons of wood laying around the garage, so we can test your paint to see how it holds up though. Either way, it sounds like it will work great for the volcano & rock formations at least.
here is a tester club [image=http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff64/darthhair/weesaberclub2.jpg] [image=http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff64/darthhair/weesaberclub.jpg]
Dude! That looks Sweeeeeeet! It turned out even better than I had imagined. Once the glue dries you'll have to give it a few good swings and let me know how it holds up. Whenever your ready I can bring the rest of the putters down & we can get crankin them out. I know we could use a few more colors of spray paint if anyone has some, or would be interested in purchasing some to donate. The paint will be used for the blade/shaft portion of the "Saber Putters", so any common lightsaber blade colors would work. Any other materials you will need to get these done Jeff?
The big thing about the paint is it needs to be neon, the other colors don't pop. Jeff is going to try & primer them w/ white to see if the red & blue stand out more or get brighter, if not then neon is the way to go. I can't believe w/ just paint how good the handle looks. If we have 20 of these to do then maybe we should do a build day and do assembly line or something.
I sprayed one club shaft with white primer, then neon pink, then dusted it with red and it turned out sweet. I am now testing the glue for the handles so we dont have 3lb projectiles black light might be cool
Note: When getting White Grizzly fur for the Wampa Cave Mini-Golf Hole...DO NOT hold it to your body while waiting forever to have it cut **Are the Sith Couple going to be home tomorrow so I can drop it off going to/coming home from Peanut B-Day Party?
Sorry no updates for a while, but I have been working like crazy & it has been takeing all the time I have to get this project done. I will working like crazy for the next few days to get the last 2 holes completed & all the final details & painting done. I will look forward to seeing everyone on Saterday!
