Hello there everyone! I just did a search through the gaming forum and only found one discussion thread on Star Wars Minis (which was more about collecting than actual gameplay) so I thought I'd start this thread for like-minded gamers like myself.
A buddy of mine recently introduced me to Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures, and while I'm not a big D&D fan, I thought the gameplay was pretty fun; like a mix between chess and Magic the Gathering. Soon after I found that there was a Star Wars version of the game out, and being the fanatic I am about starwars, I decided to pick up about $80 worth of the Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith expansion of Star Wars Miniatures (if you have spare money and an addiction to collectable games, STAY AWAY! You have been warned).
So far, I got a couple Very Rare cards/minis; Bail Organa, Anakin Skywalker: Sith Apprentice, and an AT-RT. Was just curious if anyone else was into the game, and had some strategies to pass around with using these characters, or any other general strategies for the game in general or characters you own.
While the game, I must admit, seems quite simple to start (at least compared to the slightly more advanced Dungeons and Dragons game) I can see it expanding rapidly and gaining more and more tactical elements and advanced rulings. And while the game is quite simple with the early expansions, it still provokes a great strategic element and a lot of thought in certain situations (kinda like Risk, simple game, but endless possiblilites). I hope to hear other's comments on this game.
NOTE: I do not play the Star Wars RPG game, however the moderators told me I can only discuss this game in here. Why the base game is considered part of Star Wars RPG and not a board/collectable game I will never know... guess it will be one of those great mysteries of The Force.net that only the moderators know.
May the Force Be With You!

my girlfriend and I have recently delved fully into the relam of star wars miniatures. We are both collecting and playing...

The game, although, eay to start, does get incresingly complicated, and strategy is paramount to any successful campaign.

The real beauty is this, you can mix it and is designed to be joined with, the Star Wars RPG (just as D&D Minis is designed for its respective RPG)

    great game.

Yeah, I only have the Revenge of the Sith expansion, but from what I have noticed...
Republic- use healing and powerful single characters as their main strategy
Seperatist- use bodyguards to relay the damage from powerful characters to themselves and rely on many weak characters that gain from commander effects
Fringe- Add cool effects for critical hits

I really hope they come out with a Knights of the Old Republic set! That would be amazing! I'd love to have a Darth Revan figure. Or possibly: Revan, Jedi Knight. It would be interesting. Bastila I'm sure would be good. Then there's Carth, Canderous, Mandalore, Kriea, Darth Traya, Darth Nihilus.... the list goes on and on, it'd be an awesome set!

Hey, just recently (at Celebration, in fact) I picked up RotS starter and three boosters. Only problem is that now that I'm back home there's really no place to get boosters/starters for a decent price. I got my starter for $25 in Indy, while the bookstore is selling them for $35 - I can only imagine what the comic store is selling them for. :(

Anyway, does anyone know any good websites that this stuff can be purchased from?

    how should i balance a imperial/seperatist team?

    Simple; you can't so don't! :)

You can only play the same faction on a team; and tournament rules about "Lightside" (Red) and Darkside (Blue) forces aren't released yet.

    My collection?

    REBEL STORM: 57/60
    CLONE STRIKE: 49/60
    ROTS: 49/60

You have to know what you want to get from a squad. For instance, the Imperials with their stormtroopers are excellent pieces, esp. for 5pts each. But Melee wise, they are at a disadvantage to the Republic's Jedi, and the Rebel heroes are cheaper.

Also, guys, please buy a Clone Strike starter! The map is much more melee friendly than RotS, General Kenobi is another solid Obi-wan piece and you get Jango Fett, who's not as good as Boba but a damn side easier to find.

I have been into SW Minis since day 1 and post regularly on the official SW Minis forum, so if anyone wants some squad critiques, let me know.

Also, anyone checked out vassal? You should! :D

To answer your question as to where you can buy mini's for a good price (not sure if this is allowed on the forums so if it's not, would on of the moderators please let me know):
    Try http://www.coolstuffinc.com
Great prices, if you don't mind waiting a few days for delivery. It's like $12 a booster for Revenge of the Sith Minis.
If you buy in bulk it comes out cheaper. Me and a friend just went 50/50 on a case of 12 boosters. With tax, Shipping, and handling it comes out to about $8.97 a booster. Great deal!

Ender_Sai, I never got the Clone Strike starter. It was a bit pricey and so I skipped it. I was however thinking of getting the Revenge of the Sith missions booklet if they ever release one. I heard they have the tiles and what not in them, plus different scenarios which change the gameplay around. Do you have any of the "Ultimate Missions" books? If so, let me know what you think of them.

    Ulimate Missions, you say...

I have the RS UM, and the scenarios are cute but not overly balanced nor replayable. Honestly, in CS Starter (which is cheaper than RotS starter!) you get an amazing General Kenobi figure (excellent Commander Effec), Jango Fett, and a great map.

So, you could get a CS starter with stuff you'll likely use alot, or the UM:RS/CS/RotS book with stuff you may play once... ;)

    Get the starter! :D

Rebel Storm, FWIW, will be rereleased this year and if anyone wants them, I've got pictures for the new Universe Huge set plus the ATAT which will be released this year.

Oh, and indeed Cool Stuff Inc. is a good place to buy stuff. :D

Been playing for as long as Ender.

My collection is currently sitting at:

    RS: 49/60
    CS: 47/60
    ROTS: 41/60

The fifth set, Champions of the Force (to be released after Universe Huge), will heavily feature EU figs - including Darth Nihilus and Darth Malak from the KotoR games, and Delta Squad from Republic Commando, as well as Exar Kun and Ulic Qel-Droma.

    Do you know his stats?

Noone does. Personally, I'm disappointed that they didn't go Jedi Knight rather than Jedi Outcast Kyle, but I'll live.

If I had to guess, I'd say he'd be like Aurra Sing from Clone Strike, who is one nasty and very, very useful piece.

    If I was making Kyle...?

    KYLE KATARN
    Rebel
    35 Points
    Hit Points: 130
    Defense: 21
    Attack: +11
    Damage: 20
    Special Abilities:
    Unique
Accurate Shot (Can Attack an enemy with cover even if it?s not the nearest enemy)
Careful Shot +4 (On this character?s turn, if she doesn?t move, she gets +4 Attack)
    Force Powers:
    Force 2
Lightsaber Sweep (Force 1, replaces attacks: This character can attack each adjacent enemy once)

I dunno, I think Kyle would be slightly more powerful than that. Maybe a few more force points, and a few more Squad cost points.

Consider this though; those 2 FPs won't really be used for taht much, save for rerolls on failed attacks or saves. Given he's good at range and up close, he's not going to have a bunch of force powers to use, and he's nowhere near General Kenobi's level.

True. Video games are always hard to judge, just because of the way they layout. The premise of the game is to start off weak and gain more and more skills until the final battle. According to the games, Kyle Katarn is pretty bad ass.
Just out of curiousity, I don't know if you played Knights of the Old Republic or not, but if you could make the stats of Revan... what would you choose?
Just to make things interesting, what do you think darkside Darth Revan would be like as compared to Revan, Jedi Knight (assuming you played the end of the game with the lightside, and the whole redemption of Revan plot).
Honestly, I think Revan nears (if not equals) the power of the characters described in the movies (ie. Maul, Sidious, Kenobi, Yoda, Qui-Gon). If you go with the story of KOTOR, he's definantly powerful!
This message isnt just for you Ender_Sai, if anyone has an idea of what a good Revan mini would be like, please post it.

I wouldn't stat Revan. It's too hard, because you've got the whole issue of male/female, lightside darkside etc. It'd be a can of worms, IMHO.

"To be fair, Syrix, I have a fortnight on you..."

I knew you'd been playing for a bit, but I wasn't sure whether it was a week or two. :)

As for Darth Revan... he'd be the last character I'd want to see as fig.

"Honestly, I think Revan nears (if not equals) the power of the characters described in the movies"

Well, on my first run through, I had 8 levels of Scoundrel and 20 levels of Sentinel, if that's any indication. Do Mace, Yoda or Sidious have 28 character levels??

KOTOR 1 had you max out at Level 20; 8 Levels of Scout/Scoundrel/Soldier, 12 Jedi - that's consistent with the RCRB. KOTOR 2, AFAIK, has many epic levels.

Why would you really not like to see Revan as a character? Even Revan in the full battle gear from the cutscenes? Then it wouldn't matter if he/she was male or female, nor the force alignment cause obviously at that time Revan was a Dark Lord of the Sith.
Since no one will take a shot at it, here goes nothing.

    Revan, Sith Lord
    Cost: 60
    Hit Points: 120
    Defense: 20
    Attack: +18
    Damage: 30
    Special Abilities:
    -Unique
    -Melee Attack
    -Cleave
-Triple Attack (On this characters turn, you may make 2 extra attacks instead of one)
-Memory Lapse (Upon loss of this character, your opponent gains control of this character with half hitpoints; save 12)
    Force Powers:
    -Force=5
-Sith Lightning 30 (Force 2, replaces attacks; range 6; 30 damage)
-Lightsaber Riposte (Force 1, a character with Lightsaber Riposte make an immediate attack against an enemy that hits him)

**I dont have that many higher powered characters (just Anakin, Sith Apprentice, Obi-Wan, and Grevious), so I'm not sure how balanced this is for a very powerful guy. Let me know.
