** This thread is meant as a discussion point for what reprecussions the upcoming GBA Game "Star Wars - New Droid Army" will have for the EU. Please refrain from talking about the gameplay as little as possible [face_mischief] **

With the power of the Force at his will, Anakin must stop Count Dooku from creating a new more destructive droid army. Anakin will travel from Tatooine to the depths of space to do battle against Dooku and his minions increasing his Force abilities with each conquest!

    Features

    • Encounter popular characters from the films like Yoda and Count Dooku, as well as all new characters

    • Battle your way through locations and planets straight from the films

    • Develop your Force skills as you use them
Unique lightsaber combat styles that grow with your character

This is most of the official information that we've received so far. For screenshots and movies, go to the IGN page using this link.

I've been going through several interviews, and it seems that we'll also be using the lightsaber for saber-to-saber combat... Now where things could got very interesting, methinks, is that Anakin will fight saber-baddies other than Count Dooku... the following screenshot already gives a teaser for one of the possible villains...

    [image=http://pocketmedia.ign.com/pocket/image/starwars_080902_1.jpg]

It seems that we have a Dark Jedi here wielding two blades. Now, if my memory serves me right, doesn't Count Dooku have an apprentice (I believe her title is a Sith Acolyte) in the expansion for Galactic Battlegrounds? I'm not sure whether she survives the game, but could it be possible that this is one of Dooku's other apprentices? Which, of course, might raise the question just how many apprentices Dooku has... or could it be that Darth Sidious is already beginning to train several Dark Jedi to do his bidding?

Also, judging from the introduction sequence after the textcrawl, this seems to be Anakin's first official mission after the Clone Wars. Mace seems to be concerned about Anakin's NEW Arm. I'm wondering, is this a possible conflict with the "Clone Wars" video game? I'm not sure about the timeline, but doesn't CW also start directly after AotC?

    [image=http://pocketmedia.ign.com/pocket/image/starwars_080902_8.jpg]

Although the logo from IGN is getting a bit in the way here, isn't this Barriss Offee? If so, it looks like we can have a cool cameo here :)

    [image=http://pocketmedia.ign.com/pocket/image/starwars_082602_2.jpg]

We'll be visiting three planets in this game... and once more, we'll be visiting the most popular planet on the outer rim : Tattooine. I'm looking forward to see what other planets the game will feature...

Finally, I just have to ask this question : Do you think that the storyline of this game will be factured into the EU one way or the other? Seeing as how it's a GBA game, some people just might not take it too seriously... I personally have yet to see an infinities logo, thus I personally say that this is going to be another chapter in the EU.

Once more, I want to remark that I'm looking forward to a discussion about the New Droid Army's storyline, not the gameplay. I just would like to see if this game can easily be set in any Star Wars timeline.

Dooku did have a apprentice in GB her name was Sev 'rance Tann I think.
And she did die at the end of the Republic's scenario. Also IIRC she was a Chiss

The GBA is for game boy advanced
Although there is mention of galactic battlegrounds.
this thread is about the new SW game for GBA, and how it can affect the current continuity of the prequel era.

Here is an interview with some interesting information regarding the game... here are several parts of the interview that stood out...

You'll get to explore the deserts of Tatooine, the seedy underbelly of Coruscant and a mysterious new planet known as Metalorn.

That answers my first question... seems that the underbelly of Coruscant will once more play a role... as for Metalorn, I'm curious what kind of enviroment we'll be seeing there...

Some of the familiar faces you'll see in the game include Yoda, Mace Windu, bounty hunter Aurra Sing, Dexter Jettster, Techno Union leader Wat Tambor and Count Dooku himself.

Mmmm, these are some familiar faces... I wonder what their role is going to be...

Encounters with the various boss characters are more involved as most wield lightsabers. What we are trying to capture is the dynamic of back and forth lightsaber duels seen in the movies. Each of the different lightsaber attacks cost you Force energy. They are performed with different A button and d-pad combos. Defending yourself from enemy attacks costs a certain amount of Force energy as well, so there is a balance to achieve. Once your Force energy is depleted you are completely vulnerable. Our dueling system is based around the idea of wearing your opponent's Force energy down with your attacks while protecting your own Force energy.

This also confirms what I said earlier(that the player will be fighting against several saber-baddies), but also gives information about the lightsaber system... I'll have to see it, but it sounds very good on paper...

    Metalorn

W00t! Metalorn was in Marvel comics! According to HNN, the Geonosian controlled, Baktoid Arms, operated a factory on this planet. They closed it down iirc. Later on, the Empire uysed it.It's one large factory world rich in minerals and stuff.

    *orgasms*

Several sabre baddies? Oh man I need to get a GBA. Sounds fun.

BTW, the chick in red with two lightsabres..the one near the sarlacc... she looks like the chick in the new Jango Fett game. The one holding two "dooku sabres". Go check out the trailer on the official Bounty Hunters website.

I wonder if that's her in the New Droid Army game... wonder if she survives her encounter with Jango.

The game just looks so damn fun.
New Droid Army would seem to tie into GBGs... Tann had to create a new army on the Kairn Platform not far from Tatooine. She took the army to Tatooine and smashed a Republic military base and trading spacefort there.

It certainly fits in with Zahn's stuff. Dark Jedi running around during the clone wars and all that.

(I believe her title is a Sith Acolyte

That was the term used for her in a chat with the GBG director but in the game she's referred to as a "Dark Side Acolyte" and a Jedi Knight. She appears to be a dark Jedi. Sev'Rance Taan that is.

Oh, and in Marvel, Metalorn was portrayed as having a techno environment. It had no vegetation. It looked heavily polluted from orbit. Maybe someone can post scans of it? Not just the orbital view, but the locations on the planet as well?

I assume Dooku gets his Sabres from her. Meaning Fett kills her. Do that might not be, but we know nothing concrete.

Hmm., you're probaly right. That would suck though. I assume that Dooku created the sabre cause he was an old fashioned kinda guy. I mean.. I thought he design was supposed to say something about Dooku...

Ah well. He is a collector of antiques and oddities.

Now this I like! I thought that Metalorn was just a made-up planet, but if it's a truly existing planet, it's another tie-in to the EU.

I know what you mean... it feels like a Jedi Outcast game, but then for the GBA :)

I can vaguely remember her in one of the last shots in the trailer. I'll have to see it again to be sure, it must be somewhere on my hard drive. Still, I can't quite remember that she was as white as this Dark Jedi...

Oh, and in Marvel, Metalorn was portrayed as having a techno environment. It had no plants or anything. It looked heavily polluted from orbit. Maybe someone can post scans of it? Not just the orbital view, but the locations on the planet as well?

Ooooh, I'd love to see a picture of Metalorn. I gotta check the Internet for this one. Would you happen to know in which Holonetnews issue they talked about Metalorn? Also, you said that it was shut down... was this said via Holonetnews? If so, it seems that the seperatists were bending the truth somewhat :)

I just checked a movie from the IGN site, and I think that we have a name for our mysterious Dark Jedi. In this short movie(I believe it's called "Roger, Roger" at IGN), two droids are talking to each other... one says "Inform Mistress Saato that the farm girl was not with this group". Although this isn't proof per se(they could be talking about someone else), I personally think that this is the Dark Jedi in question... would you happen to have a name of this 'dark apprentice' in Bounty Hunter?

On another note, in the introduction at the Jedi Council, Mace Windu orders Anakin to find an informant named "Raala Ponchar". I'm not sure from where, but the name sounds vaguely familiar... does it ring a bell with anyone else?

Definitely from Pre- existing material. Leia is sent to the world to sow the seeds of rebellion amongst its population. I don't know what its inhabitants are like in the PT erta, but in the Empire ewra, they're nothing more than slaves. The Empire seperates the citizens of Metalorn from galactic civilization. Entire generations of Metalorns live and die on the planet, working in the Empire factories and ore mines. It's kinda of like a 1984 type of world.

I can find the HNN article. Unfortunaltely I don't have a scanner, otherwise I'd post pics of Metalorn. There are plenety of people with the TPB collecting marvel star wars comics, called Dark Encounters. Someone post a pic of it!!! I'm looking at Metalorn right now.

Well as it turns out, the chick in bounty Hunter is named Komari Vosa... she's Dooku's former apprentice!!!! So, I don't think Dooku takes her sabres. I think it's more likely that she based her sabre design on that of her Masters' sabre.

Anyway, seeing as how she's the final bad guy in Bounty Hunter, I doubt that's her in the New Droid Army. Plus, she doesn't have tatoos.

Does anyone think it's funny how they've created this messed up line of Jedi?

Yoda trains Dooku. Dooku turns to the dark side after training Komari and Qui. Qui trains Xanatos... Xanatos goes to the dark side...Qui trans obi wan...Obi wan trains Anakin.. Anakin joins the Dark Side...

Ah, I thought I heard the name Metalorn from somewhere. Sweet! LucasArts sometimes ties into pretty obscure EU.

This post-AotC section of the timeline is already becoming convoluted! [face_laugh]

There ya go. Also, I was wrong. Metalorn wasn't shut down. A statement dealing with factory shutdowns was issued from a Baktoid headquarters on Metalorn.

Sounds like a fascinating world... can't wait to see it in the Prequel Trilogy. If anyone has any pictures, feel free to show them :D

And you get to play as Anakin ****** Skywalker! How cool is that?

Mmmm, I like the persona of Kyle Katarn, but Anakin Skywalker isn't bad himself :) Which raises the question tho', where is Obi-Wan Kenobi? Will they actually be seperated during Clone Wars, even though Anakin is still his padawan? (he still is, roit?)

Indeed, it just might work better this way... I hope that this Dark Jedi in NDA can play a significant role, as well as a good explanation why's she is there.

A bit early for that, ain't it? :p

Thanks for the link... just nice to see some mention of this elusive planet :)

This is actually quite cool... I think we've indirectly and unknowingly almost recieved our prequel equivilent to Shadows of the Empire between the Boba Fett young readers book, Shatterpoint adult book, & New Droid Army and Clone Wars video games all dealing with near the same plot threads, just are being shown different angles of them.

EDIT- When does this game come out anyways?

They probably had planned the game already when they wrote HNN...

And if you look at the high-res desktop picture of Komari Vosa, you can see that the design of her sabers is a bit different from Dooku's.

Oh, I know the HNN article was written in relation with the development of the game, but I mean the original Marvel source for Metalorn is obscure.

At least for the typical LucasArts game to refer to it.
