Did anyone else catch MTV's True Life last night? It was about embarrasing parents and featured a Star Wars father. His son hated Star Wars and couldn't see why his father liked it. Typical cynic: "Dude, lightsabers aren't real." He rags on his dad for most of the show. Then again, this guy was over the top even for me. I see it as a hobby, he sees it as a lifestyle. He lives by the Jedi Code, refers to himself as a real-life Jedi Knight, and believes in the Force as a religion.
So MTV follows him around to various Star Wars events. Barbecues and whatnot. There's a scene at Home Depot that was very deja-vu. My mom was like, "Weren't we just there?" I think I was scaring her when she watched it with me. "See mom, that's a Parks Saber." "Now you know why I've been buying brass piping?" :D
Anyway, long story short, he drags his kid with him to the Indy Celebration, to "convert" him to SW. The kid ends up seeing what his dad likes in Star Wars, thinks the Dark Side is actually pretty kool, and dons a suit of stormtrooper armor for a day during the Con. Very emotional moment...very kool.

Also, catch South Park this Saturday at 10:30 PM or Sunday at 11. The boys try to convince Lucas and Spielberg not to ruin their movies by re-making them. Hilarious stuff, SW references galore.

And if anyone recorded and digitized either, please post links!!

I saw the MTV show last night. The Star Wars father was pretty cool I thought. It was the other two fathers, the white rapper father, and the nudist-king father who were embarrassing. The son of the SW father was really mean to his dad I thought. I'm glad I don't have a kid like that. I started to cry when the SW dad did, the part where the SW dad was talking about seeing SW for the first time, when the Star Destroyer flew overhead in ANH. That single scene changed the lives of a lot of people my age. I am glad that the son was able to finally understand what the dad saw in Star Wars a little bit.

i only watched the first part of the star wars dad bit.. when the hiphop dad came on, i switched over to deep space nine...

i thought the star wars dad was cool... the son thought that star wars was lame, but hunting and fishing and nascar were cool (and normal, which in geogia, where they are from, it may be). i also noticed.. dad age 40, son age 22, both had the same name... aah.. the south...

i thought the bbq was fun... what's wrong with a theme bbq... ppl do it enough with sporting events... showing off his hobby to his son's girlfriend is every father's perogative... i wonder if the girlfriend was more into the dad's star wars collection or the son's collection of mounted deer heads and jeff gordon t-shirts...

This makes me thankful that both my kids were born with the Star Wars gene. Very little brain-washing involved.

Speaking of Bar-B-Ques, when are we going to have another one?
