New game trailer just dropped coming 2024. The only thing that got me really excited was seeing a commando droid lol

GTA Coruscant (or the next closest thing to it) has finally arrived.

An open world Star Wars game is something I’ve always dreamed of. I can’t wait!

It'll be your usual UbiSoft game in all likelihood - third person combat probably, ships and speeders for transport, large worlds to explore, all with an overall story structure.

    It won't be GTA.

Way more tower climbing would be my guess.

Oh, you're way out of date Mr Far Cry 3.

That said, more seriously, UbiSoft know they need to change things up after the reception Far Cry 6 got.

    Yeah, it was. [face_laugh]

Although, AC's viewpoint concept was both fun and cool which is why they kept it for so long. FC's first person view never worked as well for me.

I’ve long been of the opinion that Far Cry: Primal is the most underrated gem of the franchise :-B

Ubisoft Star Wars . . . it *should* be fantastic. We all know their formula by this point, it doesn’t change at all, which is fine, people still love it. We all love Star Wars (well I hope you do, considering where you are) so we are going to love this one too.

I must confess though, I’m a bit disappointed that these guys have shelved Beyond Good and Evil 2, that game seemed so incredibly promising.

edit: watching the trailer again, I am getting dejavu, this looks a lot like Beyond Good and Evil 2, I would not be surprised if their development has been redirected from that one to this one. If there’s going to be interplanetary movement like we saw in those old tech demos, then this could blow people’s socks off . . .

    It did.

One aspect I think gets overlooked is how good UbiSoft's huge open world games are for relaxed, casual gaming. You boot one up after work, you don't want a nerve shredding Soulslike.

And yeah a SW aesthetic will boost it massively.

I ain’t gonna judge anything from a video game teaser from what will likely be more than a year away.

The biggest complaint against them is familarity of formula which, quite fairly, hit its zenith for both AC Valhalla and Far Cry 6. But those games are still very fun to play, have well designed worlds to explore, with good movement and combat systems. They are far from perfect but the world design imagery is often excellent.

Hey I thought EA was gonna throw all sorts of micro transactions into fallen order and Survivor. They didn’t. I am open to giving Ubisoft the same befit of the doubt even if I don’t like most of their games.

It's universally agreed that UbiSoft's senior management and chief executive are toxic turds, but the company has some very talented developers working for them.

The huge AC trilogy had no shortage of microtransactions but the store in each game was not obtrusive and I didn't feel impelled to use it.

I mean almost all of the publishers are toxic as hell. At least from what I have heard on the web and from people in the industry. There are levels to that toxicity. And not saying some of the developers are not toxic.

Anyway. What I really want to know and this might already be available information, but when is the game set. From the vibe it could be any time from like 17BBY to 4 ABY. The fact a commando droid appears makes me think it’s before ANH.

Info posted on Twitter suggest between ESB and RotJ but I don't know what that is based on. Might know more tomorrow.

As to the industry, bad stuff remains endemic. Even the better companies like Naughty Dog and CDPR have had horrendous crunch cultures.

It was a bit of a miracle that Respawn managed to release Jedi: Survivor without any negative press around labor and “crunch”, but I suspect this one will not be so lucky. And, it pains me to say this, but considering Ubisoft’s track record I am not completely confident this will make the 2024 release window. Unless this one is taking a spot on the Assassin’s Creed assembly line, then it will probably face the same challenges as BG&E2 and that pirate game, they want it to be a new franchise launch pad and can’t figure out exactly how to do it.

But, it’s Star Wars, so hopefully the strength of the IP will propel them through any uncertainties

There's what looks like a shot of Han in carbonite in the trailer which would be after ESB. Anyway yay Battle Droid in a trenchcoat!
