I am looking for some Star Wars Podcasts to listen to. I really like the Star Wars New Canon Book Club. I am all caught up. First, is there anywhere that they have posts about upcoming episodes to keep up with it and know when they are coming out? But in general, any good podcasts, either going over the canon expanded universe with book reviews, announcement, etc? What are some of your favorites?
If you take a look on TFN Main (our main page) you'll see 'Podcasts' at the top near the right. There are links there for ours as well as two others. I've not listened myself but I'm sure you'll find something there. Two are for SW and one is for Indy.
Full of Sith, for sure. They don't just do news - discussions, analysis, and occasional cast and crew interviews.
I tend to listen to now this is podcasting, they go a bit off topic sometimes but they never fail to make me laugh.
I would say rebel force radio i have always enjoyed them but don't always agree with everything they say ! and they have some great guests also really enjoy jedi journals
Star Wars Underworld: News, Spoilers and Analysis -they have Spin-Off Podcast Reviewing Rebels, and Clone Wars quite professional http://www.starwarsunderworld.com Now This is Podcasting of Making Star Wars: Funny-Insight into behind the scene things sometimes https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/now-this-is-podcasting/id689720357?mt=2 Steele Wars-Hyperchat talk show...Very funny, very informative. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxnEDVUZe8-j61nKo4HzOYg/videos Scavengers Hoard-Speculation/reviews/lots of fun https://soundcloud.com/scavengershoard Skytalkers: They just finished a 3 part overview of the career of George Lucas.Very Good very fun https://skytalkers.com
Star Wars Minute is the best Star Wars podcast going, if you want just movie discussion. It's a deep dive into the Star Wars movies, one minute at a time. For more news-type Star Wars podcasting, I'll second the recommendations for Full of Sith and Skytalkers. The conversational episodes are very good, but when they do a more polished documentary (like the aforementioned "By George" series, or Full of Sith's recent animation special) they really shine. Stay away from Rebel Force Radio, I used to like that show but they have gone to the dark side in the last few years. If you only listen to the free show, it might be easy to miss it, but it started there with a really horrible attack on a transgender journalist during the Rogue One press (they apologized for the attack, but still disrespected their gender even during the apology), and has since turned into Twitter harassment of Andi Gutierrez, horrid screeds against women characters and women fans on their Patreon feed, just real toxic stuff.
The only one I tend to still listen to occasionally is Full of Sith. As mentioned they're best when one of them (usually Bryan) has a more focused episode, or they sometimes manage to air episodes with some interesting interviews. The episodes that are just them chatting can sometimes get dull. But on general, it's good to listen to when I see they have an episode of interest. Bryan and Holly of Full of Sith also do Fauxthentic History, about half of which are Star Wars-centric, talking about individuals or events from the GFFA in an in-universe perspective. One of their early episodes was about the Battle of Hoth where they argued that it actally wasn't a defeat for the Rebellion. And again while it's not entirely Star Wars, the sci-fi themed podcast Imaginary Worlds (which is absolutely recommended listening to fans of sci-fi overall) has done a number of specifically Star Wars themed podcast. They had five that aired prior to TFA's release (on sci-fi on the eve of Star Wars in 1977; the theme of empire vs. rebels, the controversy of the Slave Leia outfit; Han Shot First and the special editions in general; and the Expanded Universe) as well as a few since (one devoted to the "Clerks Argument" on the Death Star workers, and an episode about canon and how fans debated it after TLJ). And of course Star Wars pops up throughout various other episodes, as well.
I've tested most of the ones mentioned above, except Jedi Journals so far. I think I like Force Cast, Star Wars Underworld, and Skytalkers the best so far. I am still gonna keep the new canon book club. I really like book club style podcasts. It keeps a strong focus and is nice to follow along. It seems more social.
I listen to podcasts a lot (they're awesome for commutes) but oddly, I rarely listen to SW podcasts. Mostly because I'm in the fandom a lot already, and news podcasts especially have nothing new to offer. I've listened to bits and pieces of a lot of podcasts mentioned -- for example, Skytalkers is delightful, but I'm bad at keeping up because history is too distracting. But there are a handful I do listen to regularly, mostly of the "book club" variety. I enjoy "Rogue Podron" a lot, which is about the X-wing series. What I enjoy is that the host is the only one who's read the books, while the other 3 people are newbies -- they've read the new canon, but not much EU and def. not the X-wing books. It's really fun listening to people experience those books for the first time. I also like the Vongcast, though I am dreadfully behind. It's basically offering the opposite experience, where NJO veterans revisit those books after many years. But the discussion is similarly interesting from that perspective. I literally had no idea this podcast existed, but that sounds great. I'm always into in-universe discussions.
*points to signature* I enjoy “Let’s Talk about Star Wars” because they’re not really involved in Star Wars fandom. Desi Geek Girls isn’t exclusive to Star Wars, but I like their perspective.
yeah, the tosche station podcasts are usually very enjoyable, especially for more book focused ones. I’ve been meaning to check out the skytalker one.
I've never listened to this podcast, but its name is my favorite by far. The Great Big Beautiful Podcast has some great Star Wars episodes--it used to be more of a Disney podcast, but it's become more general lately. The episodes with Ryder Windham, Venessa Marshall, and Deliah Dawson are great listens. TC
Star Wars: Beyond the Films is a great podcast, which mainly focuses on books and comics. They also discuss films and games. The two hosts, Mark Hurliman and Nathan P. Butler, are entertaining and highly knowledgeable. Unmistakably Star Wars is another great show. The hosts are very positive and seem to be genuinely nice people who want to share their enjoyment of Star Wars. They discuss a wide variety of topics, such as book reviews, costuming and representation. Star Wars: From the Bacta Tank is also worth a listen. This is not a show for kids and the hosts use some choice language and x-rated humour. They mostly focus on the movies and TV shows. This can be a very funny show.
I don’t know if the guys who do the ForceCast post here but I just started listening to it, have listened to the past couple of episodes, and I love it. I’m also really enjoying The Resistance.
For those in a hurry that want to keep pace with the latest Star Wars news I'd recommend Star Wars 7x7.
DO IT, XANDER. I was hooked from episode 0. I mean, I'm only half through episode #2, but I am hooked and listening at a slower speed than I normally do for podcasts. It's detailed and fantastic.
Thanks for reminding me, forgot all about this. Listening to the first one. EDIT: Is there a NJO re-read thread? Might have to fire one up since I'm now inspired to re-read Vector Prime onwards.
Just realised my local library doesn't carry the NJO and I have large chunks missing from my collection. So I'm going to be stuck with 'Legends' inscribed books.
